Plastome phylogenomics and new fossil evidence from Dominican amber shed light on the evolutionary history of the Neotropical fern genus Pecluma

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, Volume 111, Issue 10, October 2024.
Abstract Premise Molecular studies based on chloroplast markers have questioned the monophyly of the fern genus Pecluma (Polypodioideae, Polypodiaceae), which has several species of Polypodium nested within it. We explored the delimitation of Pecluma and its biogeographic pattern by evaluating the phylogenetic position of four Polypodium species not ...

Topographic gradient influences vascular epiphyte occurrence in a small watershed covered by a mature coniferous/broadleaf evergreen mixed forest in Japan

open access: yesJournal of Vegetation Science, Volume 35, Issue 3, May/June 2024.
We tested the hypothesis that the horizontal epiphyte occurrence at fine scales is influenced more by topographic gradients related to abiotic factors than by host tree size and species. The epiphyte occurrence probability increased toward the valley bottom and on larger host trees; it also varied among host tree species.

Gymnogrammitis dareiformis is a polygrammoid fern (Polypodiaceae) - Resolving an apparent conflict between morphological and molecular data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Maximum parsimony and maximum likelihood analyses of the combined data sets of two chloroplast genes, rbcL and rps4, demonstrate that the monotypic genus Gymnogrammitis is part of the polygrammoid clade (Polypodiaceae + Grammitidaceae), and not the ...
