Snowmelt predicts earlier breeding across the latitudinal range of an Arctic nesting seabird, the Little Auk (Alle alle)

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Multi‐year monitoring of the crevice‐nesting High Arctic seabird, the Little Auk (Alle alle), across four colonies spanning distinct climatic regimes revealed that snowmelt timing is a key and consistent driver of breeding phenology. Earlier snowmelt advances access to nesting habitat, enabling birds to initiate reproduction sooner. These findings show

Navigating Oral Food Challenges in Clinical Trials to Keep the Science Moving Forward

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The oral food challenge (OFC) has long been the reference standard for food allergy diagnosis, as well as to confirm natural development of oral tolerance. The utilization of OFCs has significantly broadened from its role in defining disease to defining participant eligibility, individual allergen reactivity thresholds and treatment outcomes ...

Budesonide and Surfactant Therapy Versus Surfactant Alone on Incidence of Lung Disease in Preterm Infants (BEST Lung): Study Protocol for a Systematic Review and Individual Participant Data Meta‐Analysis With Nested Prospective Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesActa Paediatrica, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in preterm infants. Combining surfactant with budesonide has been proposed to prevent BPD, but results from existing randomised controlled trials (RCTs) are conflicting.

Assessing differences among elasmobranch nurseries to aid conservation based on a genomics framework

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Elasmobranch nurseries often differ in environmental conditions, demographics, and use patterns. These differences affect the distribution of genetic variation among nurseries. However, conservation and management strategies often fail to account for such differences because they are difficult to characterize.

Methodology for assessing the suitability of immature stages of Lepidoptera for nocturnal surveying using ultraviolet flashlights

open access: yesEcological Entomology, EarlyView.
Lepidoptera are highly sensitive to changes in their surroundings, making them excellent indicators of ecosystem health; however, surveying adult butterflies of certain species presents challenges. Nocturnal surveying of larvae and pupae using ultraviolet light (UV) is gaining popularity as a simple, inexpensive, and non‐invasive method.

Sex‐Specific Atlantic Salmon Upstream Passage and Fallback at a Natural Cascade After Dam Removal

open access: yesFisheries Management and Ecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In the Boquet River (NY, USA) a low‐head dam set above a ~200‐m bedrock cascade was removed in 2015. We used radio‐telemetry to assess landlocked Atlantic salmon passage at the remaining cascade (2020, 2022). Across years, 52% of males (13/25) attempted cascade passage whereas females made no discernable attempts (0/11).

Variability in Fecundity–Body Size Relationships for Atlantic Salmon Associated With Body Condition and Life History

open access: yesFisheries Management and Ecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT While body size is the primary driver of fecundity, other factors may contribute to variation in these relationships. Anadromous populations of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) have diverse life histories, and fisheries management relies on accurate fecundity estimates.
