Le 4 mai 2016, après plusieurs semaines de tension dissimulée, Ahmet Davutoglu et Recep Tayyip Erdogan ont clarifié leurs relations et leur engagement au sommet de l’État. Le congrès extraordinaire du 22 mai officialisera le départ de Davutoglu qui cessera donc d’être premier ministre.
