Aquaporin‐4 in Narcolepsy Type 1: Investigation of Perivascular Fluid Movement in Sleep Disorders

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Narcolepsy type 1 (NT1) is caused by the loss of hypocretin‐1 leading to excessive daytime sleepiness and cataplexy. Additionally, disrupted nighttime sleep has become an increasingly recognized feature of NT1. As the glymphatic fluid movement has been linked to sleep architecture, we investigated cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) Aquaporin‐4 (AQP4 ...

Climate-based daylight modeling, metrics, and level of detail

open access: yes, 2023
Climate-Based Daylight Modelling (CBDM) differs from other daylight simulation techniques in that it can produce representative results in physical and photometric units. The typical application of CBDM during the design of buildings or the planning of interventions however implies incomplete information, e.g. on the definitive furnishing, selection of

Evaluation of Different Roof Types Concerning Daylight in Industrial Buildings during the Initial Design Phase: Methodology and Case Study

open access: yesBuildings, 2019
Used properly, daylight can provide visual comfort, reduce energy consumption and improve health and safety at work. This paper investigates the influence that different roof types, (i.e., sawtooth roof, skylight and monitor), have on daylight levels ...

The Role of Orosi’s Islamic Geometric Patterns in the Building Façade Design for Improving Occupants’ Daylight Performance

open access: yesJournal of Daylighting, 2020
The form of the building facade significantly affects the amount of useful daylight admitted in the interior space. Striking a balance between the visual comforts of occupants and taking advantage of daylight is always a challenge and, therefore ...

System-level key performance indicators for building performance evaluation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Quantifying building energy performance through the development and use of key performance indicators (KPIs) is an essential step in achieving energy saving goals in both new and existing buildings. Current methods used to evaluate improvements, however,

Effects of post-fire logging on forest surface air temperatures in the Siskiyou Mountains, Oregon, USA [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Following stand-replacing wildfire, post-fire (salvage) logging of fire-killed trees is a widely implemented management practice in many forest types. A common hypothesis is that removal of fire-killed trees increases surface temperatures due to loss of ...

NanoMOF‐Based Multilevel Anti‐Counterfeiting by a Combination of Visible and Invisible Photoluminescence and Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents novel anti‐counterfeiting tags with multilevel security features that utilize additional disguise features. They combine luminescent nanosized Ln‐MOFs with conductive polymers to multifunctional mixed‐matrix membranes and powder composites. The materials exhibit visible/NIR emission and matrix‐based conductivity even as black bodies.
