Integrating vision, audition and olfaction traits: a roadmap for contrasting sensory ecologies of birds and rodents

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Sensory ecology seeks to understand how organisms detect and use information from their environment, yet comparative analyses across multiple sensory modalities remain rare. Here, we present a roadmap for contrasting the sensory ecologies of birds and rodents using surrogate morphological and acoustic traits associated with vision, audition, and ...

Evaluation of Polyolefin Encapsulants for Roll‐to‐Roll Lamination Applications

open access: yesProgress in Photovoltaics: Research and Applications, EarlyView.
Polyolefin encapsulants, PO1 and PO3, show best compatibility with R2R lamination, balancing flow, thermal properties and aging resistance. ABSTRACT Mass Customization (MC) in photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing enables the production of diverse, cost‐effective integrated PV products through the use of semi‐fabricates.

Daylighting in office buildings

open access: yes, 1985
This thesis presents a conceptual framework for the introduction of daylighting considerations into the design of office buildings. Design is an intuitive process, yet the intuition must be educated by study and analysis.

Daylighting in classrooms and building performance evaluation

open access: yes, 2013
Research has demonstrated that daylight has a positive effect on people’s mental and physical well-being, as well as their learning ability. To improve daylighting conditions in buildings and to increase energy-efficiency and sustainability in new buildings, the Danish Building Regulation 2020 (Bygningsreglement 2020) raises the daylight factor ...

Exploring the causes and impact of pediatric complicated mild traumatic brain injuries

open access: yesPM&R, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in children, with mild TBI (mTBI) accounting for approximately 80% of cases. Complicated mTBI (c‐mTBI) is characterized by radiographic evidence of intracranial abnormalities and/or skull fractures.

Gene turnover in the common ancestor of all C4 grasses

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Understanding how plants evolve more efficient photosynthesis is important in a warming world where improving crop productivity and resilience is a global priority. By generating the first reference genomes for an early‐diverging group of grasses called the Aristidoideae, we were able to reconstruct the genetic makeup of the last common ancestor of all

Leaf heat tolerance in a native Californian shrub responds in expected and unexpected ways to differences in range, season, and sunlight exposure

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Earth's ecosystems are experiencing wide‐ranging impacts from global climate change, including increased average and extreme temperatures. These temperature shifts can drastically affect plant physiology, threatening the future of even common plant species. Here, we focus on photosynthetic function in a native Southern California shrub species.

Multiple barriers maintain species boundaries in sympatric brood‐site deceptive Gastrodia orchids

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Societal Impact Statement Gastrodia orchids are inconspicuous forest plants that lack chlorophyll and obtain carbon from fungi. Their dull‐colored, ground‐level flowers are often hidden among leaf litter, yet they rely on small flies for pollination.

Evolution of photoperiod insensitivity drove the westward expansion of broomcorn millet

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
This research highlights how ancient farming communities adapted crops to challenging environments, enabling the spread of agriculture across Eurasia. By demonstrating that broomcorn millet evolved reduced sensitivity to day‐length, the study explains how this crop could support food production in regions with short growing seasons and long summer days.
