Tutorial Overview: Numerical Synergy in Muffler Acoustic Design A Critical Comparison of TMM, FEM, and CFD Approaches for Transmission Loss Quantification

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 1, January 2026.
Experimental measurements reveal distinct performance boundaries: TMM achieves rapid convergence (< 2 dB error below 2000 Hz) but neglects 3D wave effects; FEA maintains < 10% deviation up to 3500 Hz with 90% reduced computational cost versus CFD; while transient CFD captures broadband attenuation trends despite 10× higher resource demands.

Multi-axial fatigue numerical crack propagation in cruciform specimens

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity, 2019
Two cracks, initiated from the opposite tips of a central notch inclined by 45°, were considered in cruciform specimens made of Ti6246. A static load was applied to a cruciform arm while a cyclic load was applied along the other arm.

Bayesian-Informed Fatigue Life Prediction for Shallow Shell Structures

open access: yesFatigue of Aircraft Structures
This study introduces a Bayesian-informed framework for fatigue life prediction in shallow shell structures. The methodology focuses on inferring the Equivalent Initial Flaw Size Distribution (EIFSD), a critical parameter for structural durability ...

Heterogeneous mathematical models in numerical analysis of structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 1924
This paper presents a common approach to the numerical analysis of elasticity and heat conduction problems in computed structures. It is based on a combination of the linear elasticity theory with Timoshenko's shell theory for elasticity problems, and of

Mapping the locus for ocular melanosis in Cairn Terriers

open access: yesVeterinary Ophthalmology, Volume 29, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Objective To map the disease locus for familial ocular melanosis (OM) in the Cairn Terrier. Animals Studied Cairn Terriers with OM and normal control dogs. Procedure A genome‐wide association study (GWAS) was performed using 63 OM‐affected and 31 control Cairn Terriers, followed by haplotype analysis.

Climate change alters fish community size-structure, requiring adaptive policy targets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Size‐based indicators are used worldwide in research that supports the management of commercially exploited wild fish populations, because of their responsiveness to fishing pressure.

Space Weather Impact of Three Solar Flares Observed by the POEMAS Telescope at 45 and 90 GHz

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 130, Issue 11, November 2025.
Abstract Solar flares are often associated with coronal mass ejections (CMEs) that, when directed toward Earth, can disrupt the magnetosphere and impact space weather. In this study, we investigate three long‐duration solar flares observed in 2012 by the POlarization Emission of Millimeter Activity at the Sun (POEMAS) telescopes at 45 and 90 GHz.

Multiple crack propagation in friction stir welded aluminium joints [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This paper is concerned with the simulation of crack propagation in friction stir welded butt joints, in order to assess the influence of process induced microstructural alterations and residual stresses on the fatigue behaviour of the assembly.

Communicating a Pediatric Leukemia Diagnosis to a Child and Their Family: A Qualitative Study Into Oncologists’ Perspectives

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, Volume 72, Issue 4, April 2025.
ABSTRACT Background A pediatric cancer diagnosis is overwhelming and stressful for the whole family. Patient‐centered communication during the diagnostic conversation can support medical and psychosocial adaptation to the disease. Treatment of pediatric leukemia has become increasingly complex and requires a specific skillset from clinicians in ...
