Bridging Practice and Theory: The Emerging Potential of Design-based Research (DBR) for Digital Innovation in Education

Education, research and perspectives, 2020
Design-based research (DBR) and cognate, practitioner-oriented methodologies have gained increased prominence in the last twenty-five years, and in particular have become established approaches for exploring how we might best optimise the potential ...

Nonlinear Effects Analysis in DBR Lasers: Applications to DBR-SOA and New Double Bragg DBR

IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics, 2007
This paper presents a theoretical and experimental study of nonlinear effects in distributed Bragg reflector (DBR)-type tunable lasers, which are responsible for asymmetric spectral or power characteristics, and for hysteresis phenomena. We propose an optimized DBR semiconductor optical amplifier design that suppresses these effects, making the control

The COMBO DBR: Comb-Optimized DBR Laser for Versatile Design

2018 IEEE International Semiconductor Laser Conference (ISLC), 2018
In this paper we describe a novel design of DBR laser that utilizes sampled gratings to optimize mirror loss and mirror bandwidth independently. This versatile design approach has enabled a wide variety of lasers, from compact low power consumption to high power and MOPA designs.

Miniature DBR with series capacitive loading

2010 10th Mediterranean Microwave Symposium, 2010
AbstractA new miniature dual behavior resonator (DBR) topology with capacitors placed in series between the feed lines and the stubs is demonstrated. Design equations are derived. For a proof‐of‐concept, a first‐order prototype with a 1‐GHz working frequency and 70% size reduction is realized, measured, and compared with a classical DBR.

Competition Noise in DBR Tunable Lasers

Fluctuation and Noise Letters, 2003
Tunable Lasers are key-components for Wavelength Division Multiplexing optical communication applications at 1.55μ m . In this paper, we report the study of low to mid frequency noise power spectral densities and correlation factors in various spectral purity configurations, using the Bragg section tunability around a mode-hopping situation.

Sub-kHz Linewidth Extended-DBR Lasers Heterogeneously Integrated on Silicon

Optical Fiber Communications Conference and Exhibition, 2019
We demonstrate single-mode E-DBR lasers with 1kHz linewidth and >37mW output power, and ring-assisted E-DBR lasers with 500Hz linewidth, by heterogeneously integrating III-V gain material with a 15mm long ultra-low loss silicon waveguide-based Bragg ...

Digital wavelength-selected DBR laser

SPIE Proceedings, 2003
Widely tunable monolithic InP lasers can, in principle, cover one or other of the Er-doped fibre amplifier windows. These windows span wavelength ranges of around 40-50nm. However, the change in refractive index that can be achieved by current injection into a grating section is limited to about 1-2% corresponding to around 10-20nm in wavelength, so ...

Wavelength and mode stabilization of widely tunable SG-DBR and SSG-DBR lasers

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 1999
A novel mode stabilization scheme for widely tunable SG-DBR and SSG-DBR lasers is demonstrated. It is shown that a minimum in active section voltage is obtained when a cavity mode and a reflection peak of each DBR mirror are aligned. Locking the laser to such a local minimum in active section voltage therefore ensures stable single-mode operation.
