DC-DC power converter for monolithic implementation

With the increasing drive towards compactness and portability, there is a need for high power density power supplies. This paper presents a power supply suitable for monolithic implementation. A 5 V-10 V boost converter has been designed using 1.2 /spl mu/m Hewlett-Packard and 0.25 /spl mu/m SOI MITLL CMOS process technology.

The traditional mathematical modelling is successful to describe fundamental converters, but not available for complex structure converters since the differential equation order increases very high.

This paper discusses the use of printed circuit board (PCB) integrated inductors for low power dc/dc buck converters. Coreless, magnetic plates and closed core structures are compared in terms of achievable inductance, power handling and efficiency in a footprint of 10 x 10 mm(2).

Power improvement of piezoelectric transformer based DC/DC converter

In this paper a novel strategy to increase the power of piezoelectric transformer (PT) by using a cooling system is presented. A thermal pad is directly attached to a PT to dissipate the heat and enhance the power capacity. In a piezoelectric ceramic the heat increase quickly when the vibration velocity become too large.
