Verification of frequency converter with small DC-link capacitor
2005 European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications, 2005Traditionally, large DC-link capacitors have been used in voltage source inverters. By using MPPF-type capacitor the line current harmonic content is improved and the unreliable electrolytic capacitor can be omitted. In this paper, the dynamic behavior of an inverter with small DC-link capacitor has been studied by simulations and laboratory tests.

This paper investigates universal start-up procedure for Flying Capacitor Converter (FLC). Main part of this procedure is pre-charging of the dc-link and flying capacitors. This method is usable for voltage pre-charging in rectifier as well as inverter mode of the multilevel FLC converter. This specific feature is based on use of converter topology and

In some applications, to increase the system power density and lower the system cost, the dc-link capacitance of PMSM drives needs to be reduced. However, such practice may cause considerable dc-link voltage fluctuation. In this study, a method is proposed to reduce the dc-link voltage fluctuation.

Comparison of DC-Link Capacitor Types Under Various Grid Conditions
2019 IEEE 13th International Conference on Compatibility, Power Electronics and Power Engineering (CPE-POWERENG), 2019A DC/AC converter can face negative conditions of power systems such as instability. One of the most crucial necessities of the grid is voltage stability. There are some effects of voltage unbalance for grid-tied DC/AC converters. Grid voltage unbalance causes higher THD values on grid currents than normal grid conditions.

Reliability of capacitors for DC-link applications - An overview
2013DC-link capacitors are an important part in the majority of power electronic converters which contribute to cost, size and failure rate on a considerable scale. From capacitor users' viewpoint, this paper presents a review on the improvement of reliability of DC-link in power electronic converters from two aspects: 1) reliability-oriented DC-link ...

The impact of grid unbalances on the reliability of DC-link capacitors in a motor drive
2017 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2017DC-link capacitor is one of the reliability-critical components in motor drive applications, which contributes to a considerable cost, size and failure. Its reliability performance depends on both inherent physical strength and external loading. The grid unbalances could alter the electro-thermal stresses of key components in a motor drive.

A VEN Condition Monitoring Method of DC-Link Capacitors for Power Converters
IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2019The dc-link capacitors are important components that tend to be one of the weakest part of power converters. Thus, it is necessary to monitor the aging parameters of dc-link capacitors in valuable power electronic systems. This paper proposes a simple yet effective variable electrical network (VEN) condition monitoring method for dc-link capacitors in ...

Reliability of DC-link capacitors in power electronic converters
2015DC-link capacitors are widely used in power electronic converters to balance the instantaneous power difference between the input source and output load and to minimize voltage variation in the DC-link. In some applications, they are also used to provide energy storage. Figure 3.1 shows some typical configurations of power electronic conversion systems
