Multi‐phase VSI DC‐link capacitor considerations
The modelling, control, switching schemes, novel applications, etc. of multi‐phase voltage source inverters (VSIs) have been studied in recent years. While some DC‐link capacitor considerations have been reported and ripple current assessments presented, the impact of these analyses on system design has not previously been quantified.

Virtual inertia with PV inverters using DC-link capacitors [PDF]
Soon, virtual inertia for grid control must be covered by photovoltaic inverters. It is suggested to use DC link capacitors for this task. This requires 5 W, 50 J and a capacitor size of about 200 cm3 per installed kW, corresponding to the size of single phase DC link capacitors. It is shown that the additional power ripple (and thus current ripple) is

Robust and generic control of full-bridge modular multilevel converter high-voltage DC transmission systems [PDF]
This paper presents the theoretical basis of the control strategy that allows the cell capacitor voltage regulation of the full-bridge modular multilevel converter (FB-MMC) to be controlled independent of its dc link voltage.

Active voltage balancing of DC-link electrolytic capacitors
DC voltage links of three-phase power converters are frequently equipped with a series connection of two electrolytic capacitors because of high voltage level. For such a configuration, usually resistors have to be arranged in parallel to each capacitor in order to balance the partial voltages. These balancing resistors, however, have to be dimensioned

Advanced Vector Controller for a Four-Switch Three-Phase Rectifier under Unbalanced Grid Voltage
One of the main challenges of a four-switch three-phase rectifier (FSTPR) is a DC imbalance in capacitor voltages. On the other hand, under unbalanced grid voltage conditions, unbalanced three-phase input current and the DC-link voltage affect the ...

Design and Analysis of a New Evaluation Circuit for Capacitors Used in a High-Power Three-Phase Inverter [PDF]
DC-link capacitors in power electronic converters are a major constraint on improvement of power density as well as reliability. Evaluation of the dc-link capacitors in terms of power loss, ageing, and failure rate will play an important role in design ...
