A simple method for balancing the DC-link voltage of three-level inverters

2001 IEEE 32nd Annual Power Electronics Specialists Conference (IEEE Cat. No.01CH37230), 2002
In this paper, a simple control method for balancing the DC-link voltage of three-level neutral-point-clamped (NPC) inverters is presented. The method is based on DC-DC power converter technology. In addition, the proposed topology is enhanced to also improve the NPC inverter's ride-through ability.

Voltage balancing control of a symmetrical nine-phase machine with series-connected DC links

2017 IEEE 26th International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE), 2017
This paper explores the possibility of using a nine-phase machine, with three isolated neutral points, in order to produce a high dc-link voltage by cascading three lower voltage three-phase voltage source inverters. Each inverter drives one winding set of the machine. Consequently, used inverter switches and capacitors have three times smaller voltage

Study on the Performance of Cascaded STATCOM Based on DC-Link Voltage Balancing Method

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012
DC-link voltage balancing method is the key technique of cascaded static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) while safety and reliability is required previously. However, independent control scheme is necessary for each H-bridge in consideration of the voltage balancing strategy, which is different from the assumption of carrier phase shift modulation ...

A Seven-Level Hybrid Inverter with DC-Link and Flying Capacitor Voltage Balancing

2019 IEEE International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering and 2019 IEEE Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Europe (EEEIC / I&CPS Europe), 2019
Hybrid Multi-Level Inverter(MLI) topologies are gaining attention over conventional ones due to their extended applications in the power, industrial and renewable energy sectors. MLIs are optimized which can provide compact size, reduced cost and higher efficiency compared to the conventional types.

Voltage balancing in DC link capacitor for seven level cascaded multilevel inverter

2013 IEEE Conference on Clean Energy and Technology (CEAT), 2013
Multilevel inverters enables implementation of high-power-medium-voltage applications using smaller rated devices resulting to cheaper and compact design. Currently, researchers are interested in developing distributed generation (DG) with multilevel topology that produces not just active power demands, but also incorporated with custom power ...

A control technique to balance the voltage of DC-link for three-level NPC converter

2017 Brazilian Power Electronics Conference (COBEP), 2017
This paper proposes a control to balance the voltages of Dc-link for three-level NPC converter. Several relevant characteristics of the converter are addressed, such as voltage capability, harmonic distortion, and power losses. Compared to other techniques, the level of harmonic distortion was lower and the semiconductor losses (conduction and ...

About the DC-link capacitors voltage balance in multi-point clamped converters

IECON '98. Proceedings of the 24th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (Cat. No.98CH36200), 2002
The multi-point clamped converter (MPCC) represents an interesting technical solution to overcome the limitations in voltage and power posed by the existing semiconductor devices. However, if real power must be delivered to the load, DC-link capacitors exhibit a problematic voltage unbalance, that can be faced in both active or passive ways, that is ...

Common mode-voltage elimination and DC-link balancing for three-level inverter

International Conference on Sustainable Energy and Intelligent Systems (SEISCON 2011), 2011
The paper presents the effects and importance of parameters like harmonics and currents that are to be accounted for the satisfactory performance of an inverter. Practically known problems such as common-mode voltage between inverter and load neutral and the dc-link unbalance of source capacitors are affect the performances of the inverter.

Predictive current control and DC-link capacitor voltages balancing for four-leg NPC inverters

2013 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics, 2013
This paper presents a finite control set model predictive strategy to control the three-phase four-leg neutral-point-clamped (NPC) inverters. The four-leg NPC inverter delivers power to the unbalanced/nonlinear three-phase loads, and it can produce three output currents independently. The proposed method uses the discrete-time model of the inverter and
