Modelling of an argon plasma jet generated by a dc arc

Plasma Sources Science and Technology, 2008
The modelling of a dc plasma source operating at low power and at low mass flow rate is presented. The physical description of the electric arc in volume with chemical and thermal non-equilibrium conditions is given: two-temperature model, ionization–neutralization process and arc–gas interactions are discussed.

Modelling of non-equilibrium DC argon and xenon arcs

Czechoslovak Journal of Physics, 2006
Numerical modelling of a wall-stabilised low-current arc at high-pressure argon and xenon is performed taking into account a deviation of the electron temperature from the heavy particles temperature. The model is based on the energy conservation equations for electrons and heavy particles.

Three-Dimensional Modelling of a DC Arc in Cross-Flow

Plasma Science and Technology, 2007
A commercial CFD (computational fluid dynamics) code FLUENT was used and modified to model an atmospheric pressure argon arc in a low cross flow by solving the fully coupled conservation equations. Numerical experiments, with an arc current of 100 A to 200 A, an arcing distance of 3 mm to 6 mm, and a cross-flow velocity of 10 m/s to 30 m/s, were

Arc fault modeling and simulation in DC system based on Habedank model

2016 Prognostics and System Health Management Conference (PHM-Chengdu), 2016
Arc fault in DC system is an un-negligible hazard which should to be cut off immediately for system safety. In order to describe the character of the arc fault, an accurate arc model is in urgent need. This paper proposed a new method to confirm the parameters of Habedank model which used in DC system.

Study of the electric arc in DC contactors: Modeling, simulation and experimental validation

2017 IEEE Holm Conference on Electrical Contacts, 2017
This paper presents a method to simulate the current and voltage of an electric arc initiated at the contact's opening in a contactor. Based on a simplified model of the electric arc and also on the dynamics of the contacts during the opening, this method allows to simulate the arc ignition as well as the arc extinction.

Fluid Flow Modeling of Arc Plasma and Bath Circulation in DC Electric Arc Furnace

Journal of Iron and Steel Research International, 2006
A mathematical model describing the flow field, heat transfer and the electromagnetic phenomenon in a DC electric arc furnace has been developed. First the governing equations in the arc plasma region are solved and the calculated results of heat transfer, current density and shear stresses on the anode surface are used as boundary conditions in a ...

Comparisons of Two Models for the Simulation of a DC Arc Plasma Torch

Journal of Thermal Spray Technology, 2012
Abstract The hypothesis of local thermal equilibrium (LTE) in thermal plasma has been widely accepted. Most of the simulation models for the arc plasma torch are based on the hypothesis of LTE and its results indicate a good validity to mimic the pattern of the plasma flow inside the plasma torch.

Modelling of a DC arc furnace for optimal integration with the supply system

IAS '95. Conference Record of the 1995 IEEE Industry Applications Conference Thirtieth IAS Annual Meeting, 2002
DC are furnaces have gained increasing favour with steel makers all over the world. DC arc furnaces have advantages over their conventional AC counterparts because of their greater supply-friendly nature. Although DC are furnaces still generate flicker, the stochastic component in their harmonics arc reduced and their demands on the supply network are ...

Computational Modeling of Arc–Slag Interaction in DC Furnaces

JOM, 2016
The plasma arc is central to the operation of the direct-current arc furnace, a unit operation commonly used in high-temperature processing of both primary ores and recycled metals. The arc is a high-velocity, high-temperature jet of ionized gas created and sustained by interactions among the thermal, momentum, and electromagnetic fields resulting from
