Capacitance estimation of DC-link capacitor in brushless DC motor drive systems

2013 IEEE ECCE Asia Downunder, 2013
This paper proposes a capacitance estimation method for the dc-link capacitor in brushless DC motor (BLDCM) drive systems. The proposed method is performed in the generating mode of the BLDCM. In this mode, the inverse dc current flows to the capacitor and the capacitor voltage is increased by the generating operation.

Condition Monitoring of DC-Link Capacitors in Aerospace Drives

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2012
This paper proposes a novel online condition monitoring system of dc-link metallized polypropylene capacitors in fault-tolerant drives for aerospace applications. The estimation technique makes use of voltage and current sensors which are already in place for protection and control purposes.

Online Condition Monitoring of DC-Link Capacitor for AC/DC/AC PWM Converter

IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, 2022
This article proposes a condition monitoring scheme for the dc-link capacitors used in ac/dc/ac pulsewidth-modulation converters based on the signal injection, which can estimate capacitance in real time when both the rectifier and the inverter are in normal operation.

Large-capacity AC superimposed DC power supply for the degradation evaluation of DC-link capacitors

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2023
The DC-link capacitor, whose operating voltage is a periodic irregular waveform, is a key device in the converter. A large-capacity DC/AC superimposed experimental power supply above 100 kVA is an important piece of equipment that must be used in the aging research of DC-link capacitors.

Method for balancing capacitors voltages on split DC-links

2016 18th European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications (EPE'16 ECCE Europe), 2016
A technique to actively balance the voltages on series-connected capacitors designated to split DC sources whose loads comprise power converters is presented. It performs such balancing dynamically, enabling the voltage equalization even for small capacitors under wide power and voltages ranges. Proposal consists on lightly controlling the power of one

Resonance Suppression Between Line Inductor and DC-Link Capacitor

2020
The harmonic of the grid current is an important issue in the reduced DC-link capacitance motor drive system. An input inductor has been applied in the grid side to improve the grid current quality.

Investigation of performance of UPFC without DC link capacitor

Electric Power Systems Research, 2008
This paper presents an analysis of the dynamic operation of unified power flow controller without DC link capacitor. In this scheme of UPFC the shunt converter present in the static synchronous compensator is operated as a current source rectifier, which maintains a fixed DC voltage and DC current on the DC link without capacitor.

Verification of frequency converter with small DC-link capacitor

2005 European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications, 2005
Traditionally, large DC-link capacitors have been used in voltage source inverters. By using MPPF-type capacitor the line current harmonic content is improved and the unreliable electrolytic capacitor can be omitted. In this paper, the dynamic behavior of an inverter with small DC-link capacitor has been studied by simulations and laboratory tests.

Line harmonics on systems using reduced DC-link capacitors

IECON 2013 - 39th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2013
As in all industrial sectors, drives for AC motors are constantly pushed for improvement. Drives using a reduced capacitance for DC-link filtering have gather attention in recent years as a way not only to increase the drives life-time but also to improve the line harmonics while, due to the increased computing capabilities, maintaining a reasonably ...
