Optimal Power Flow in Stand-alone DC Microgrids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Direct-current microgrids (DC-MGs) can operate in either grid-connected or stand-alone mode. In particular, stand-alone DC-MG has many distinct applications. However, the optimal power flow problem of a stand-alone DC-MG is inherently non-convex. In this

Contribution of a smart transformer in the local primary control of a microgrid [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In order to enable an easy participation of microgrids in the electricity markets, the smart transformer (ST) concept has been developed. The ST controls the power exchange between a microgrid and the utility network by only controlling its microgrid ...

Tumbling Magnetic Microrobots for Targeted In Vivo Drug Delivery in the GI Tract

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
We introduce a microrobot design and integrated system for on‐demand targeted drug release in the gastrointestinal tract. The microrobot has an embedded magnet for actuation with external magnetic fields and is visualized in real time using ultrasound. It has two drug release ports sealed with a thermally sensitive wax. Local heating of the wax using a

Power Oscillations Damping in DC Microgrids [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion, 2016
This paper proposes a new control strategy for damping of power oscillations in a multi-source dc microgrid. A parallel combination of a fuel cell (FC), a photovoltaic (PV) system and a supercapacitor (SC) are used as a hybrid power conversion system (HPCS). The SC compensates for the slow transient response of the FC stack.
