The information presented here is generally known to dc motor manufacturers but is not common knowledge to dc motor users. As there is a necessity for the equipment to perform beyond its original specifications and adjustment, commutation issues may arise that could increase maintenance requirements or downtime.

We derive the mathematical model of this class of motors. Then we design the proposed control schemes in original coordinates, i.e. a dq transformation is not required. We formally solve the velocity and position regulation problems. A pendulum is included as the load in the position control problem. In this chapter we include sketches of the stability

DC motor velocity control through a DC-to-DC power converter
2004 43rd IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (CDC) (IEEE Cat. No.04CH37601), 2004This paper considers the development of a smooth "starter" for a DC motor based on a switch controlled DC-to-DC power converter of the "buck" type. The dynamic feedback controller is based on a suitable combination of passivity based control, flatness and a /spl Sigma/ - /spl Delta/ modulator implementation of the average designed controller.

Nonlinear control of a shunt DC motor
IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 1993The problem of controlling a shunt DC motor is considered. Recent methods for nonlinear control are compared, including feedback linearization, generalized controller canonical forms, and input-output linearization. Connections between the approaches, as well as their respective advantages are discussed in detail. >

Experiments with an electric motor provide good opportunity to demonstrate some basic laws of electricity and magnetism. The aim of the experiments with a low-power dc motor is to show how the motor approaches its steady rotation and how its torque, mechanical power and efficiency depend on the rotation velocity.

In this chapter, we’ll develop a diozero-based device library based on what you learned in earlier chapters. I’ve chosen a device commonly used in robotics, a DC motor controller, and, more narrowly, one accessed via serial I/O. That said, the chapter covers topics applicable to the development of a device library for any type of device using any form ...

In this chapter, the authors discuss the DC servo motor. They first described the basic definition of DC servo motor and how it is different from other types of motors. Then they discuss armature controlled DC servo motor, and field controlled servo motor. Modelling of DC servo motor is then discussed.
