Brushless DC Motors

2003
Brushless DC (BLDC) motors, also called permanent magnet synchronous motors, are used in direct-drive applications mainly due to their large torque producing capability. Compared to conventional DC motors, they have no brushes or mechanical commutators, which eliminates the problems due to mechanical wear of the moving parts [68, 74].

DC & AC traction motors

IET Professional Development Course on Electric Traction Systems, 2008
Traction motors provide the motive force for the majority of railway vehicles. This paper looks at the fundamentals of the design and construction of the main DC and AC traction motor types that will usually be encountered in the UK and discusses some of the details that need to be considered.

DC motor cooling considerations

IEEE/IAS Pulp & Paper Industry Technical Paper Conference, 2011
DC motors have been the workhorse of variable speed drives in the paper industry for many years. DC motors in paper mills are usually separately ventilated from a large common air supply. The quantity and quality of the cooling air can have a major impact on the DC motors' performance, operation, maintenance and life between overhauls.

DC Servo Motor

2015
In this chapter, the authors discuss the DC servo motor. They first described the basic definition of DC servo motor and how it is different from other types of motors. Then they discuss armature controlled DC servo motor, and field controlled servo motor. Modelling of DC servo motor is then discussed.
