DC power grids for buildings

2015 IEEE First International Conference on DC Microgrids (ICDCM), 2015
Direct current (DC) power grids are an interesting option for buildings to connect natural DC power sources such as photovoltaic power systems with DC loads like lighting, IT systems as well as speed-controlled electric motors of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems. The paper documents learnings, measurements and efficiency differences of

Stability analysis of high-power DC grids

Conference Record 2009 IEEE Industrial & Commercial Power Systems Technical Conference, 2009
During the last several years, increasing effort has been spent to advance offshore wind power. So far, only small test fields have been realized, and the electrification of offshore wind farms still remains a research topic. Currently, offshore wind farms are equipped with three-phase ac grids, some of them will be connected to the transmission grid ...

Research on DC Grid Power Characteristics and DC Active Power Filtering

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
When nonlinear load is powered by DC grid, harmonic currents and distortion power are produced. At first, the concept of the DC active power filter (DC-APF) is presented in this paper after the analysis of instantaneous power and power factor in the DC network.

A Double Uneven Power Converter-Based DC–DC Converter for High-Power DC Grid Systems

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2015
This paper presents a novel double uneven power converter-based dc-dc converter and its design and control methods. The main objectives are to reduce the power losses in the power semiconductor devices and to reduce the output filter inductance in a high-power (megawatt-level) dc-dc converter.

Combined DC Power Flow Controller for DC Grid

2018 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Niigata 2018 -ECCE Asia), 2018
The utilization of DC power flow controller can increase the control freedom in the complex DC gird, which will improve both the active power distribution and coordination control performance of DC grid. The general concept frame of Combined DC power flow controller has been proposed in this paper, as well as a detailed topology.

A Multiport Embedded DC Power Flow Controller for Meshed DC Distribution Grids

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2022
Ring and meshed dc distribution grids have attracted increasing interest lately. Their multi-point and multi-terminal structure facilitates flexible operational control and reliable power supply across the network. However, the systems implemented with existing power converters lack sufficient control freedoms for proper power flow adjustment ...

Online Monitoring of the Power Transfer in a DC Test Grid

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2010
One solution for increasing the use of renewables is to find new strategies to promote the connection of distributed energy resources (DERs) within the existing power system. A solution that allows a flexible integration of dispersed generation (DG) into energy networks is the use of dc at the user layer.

Conducted Emissions on DC Power Grids

2018 International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC EUROPE), 2018
This paper describes measurements and modelling of conducted emissions in the time and frequency domain to characterize the impact of typical DC/DC converters as found on DC grids for renewable generation. A small demonstration HVDC system with active DC/DC converters was built and measurements taken over a range of load and system voltages.
