Ecological benefits of dc power transmission

Power Technology and Engineering, 2011
The environmental effects of dc overhead transmission lines are examined. The major effects of ac and dc transmission lines are compared. Dc lines have advantages compared to ac lines in terms of electrical safety for people under the lines, biological effects, corona losses, and clearance width.

Long-distance DC electrical power transmission

IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine, 2013
Transmission and/or distribution systems are needed to transport electrical power from its generation site to the user locations. This paper reviews major DC power transmission technologies, concentrating on systems that are capable of long-distance transmission. Special attention is paid to lifetime models and the safe use of DC insulation systems.

Underground High-Power Transmission Part I: AC and DC Transmission Techniques

7 IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition, 1979., 2005
In Part I and II of this paper the results of the study "Electric High-Power Transmission and Distribution in Densely Populated Areas" related to future electric underground transmission are presented. The study was conducted in the Federal Republic of Germany in the period 1973 through 1977 as a joint venture by about 100 experts of utilities ...

Why DC for Long-Range Power Transmission

The Physics Teacher, 2002
The case for dc versus ac power transmission is reviewed. It is concluded that for long transmission distances, i.e. more than 800 km (500 miles), dc transmission is cheaper and probably more reliable. The 1.0-MV Pacific Intertie is cited as an example of a modem efficient dc system.

Cryogenic System for DC Superconducting Power Transmission Line

IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity, 2007
Due to the recent developments of the electric power devices and the HTS power cables, DC superconducting power transmission system is considered to be practical. As one of the R & D issues of the DC superconducting power transmission system, we measured the radiation heat of the thermally-isolated stainless steel pipes with different surfaces.

Parallel Operation of AC and DC Power Transmission

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1965
A preliminary account has already been given of the EHV composite ac-dc study initiated last year at the University of Wisconsin [1]. This paper presents additional results obtained in the study of parallel EHV ac-dc power transmission in a basic 2-machine equivalent system.

"High Voltage DC Cable for Bulk Power Transmission"

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1980
After summarizing the technical and economical reasons which can make dc attractive for HV bulk power transmission, the main existing cable plants are shortly described and a tentative outlook of the basic requirements for future cable connections is given. Then significant examples are shown of the power per cable circuit Which can be transmitted with

Study on over DC power line data transmission

IEEE 2011 10th International Conference on Electronic Measurement & Instruments, 2011
This study developed a low cost serial data transmission method. By using this method, commonly used data transmission cable can be omitted. The result shows that with baud rate of 9600 bps, stable data transmission can be realized. In order to implant serial data to DC power line, electric circuit was designed to convert serial data into serial data ...

An integrated tri-mode DC-DC converter with segmented power devices and power transmission gate

2015 IEEE International Conference on Electron Devices and Solid-State Circuits (EDSSC), 2015
An integrated high efficiency tri-mode DC-DC converter that can operate in buck, boost and buck-boost configurations is presented. A power transmission gate is implemented in the tri-mode converter as the high side driver of the H-bridge output stage to extend the range of the output voltage to be lower than 1.5 V.

Stability improvement of power system by simultaneous AC–DC power transmission

Electric Power Systems Research, 2008
Abstract This paper presents a concept of improving the transient stability of power system by simultaneous AC–DC power transmission through a transmission line. A double circuit long transmission line is converted to simultaneous AC–DC line for feasibility study. Loss of synchronism is prevented by quickly producing sufficient decelerating energy to
