Assessing the impact of AGS-004, a dendritic cell-based immunotherapy, and vorinostat on persistent HIV-1 Infection

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
Approaches to deplete persistent HIV infection are needed. We investigated the combined impact of the latency reversing agent vorinostat (VOR) and AGS-004, an autologous dendritic cell immunotherapeutic, on the HIV reservoir.

A Multifunctional MXene/PVA Hydrogel as a Continuous Ionic Thermoelectric Generator and a Strain/Temperature Sensor

open access: yesSmall, Volume 21, Issue 3, January 22, 2025.
A continuous‐output ion thermoelectric generator based on the redox reaction of Cu/Cu2+ embedded in a flexible MXene/PVA hydrogel is developed to harvest near‐room‐temperature heat. The thermopower is enhanced by reducing the diffusivity of ions via the addition of MXene.

Neuronal and glial cell alterations involved in the retinal degeneration of the familial dysautonomia optic neuropathy

open access: yesGlia, Volume 72, Issue 12, Page 2268-2294, December 2024.
Main Points Retinal vasculature and glial cell alterations precede the death of retinal ganglion cells in the Elp1‐deleted retina. Disruptions of the neurovascular unit (NVU) in the FD retina may exacerbate the diseased retinal state. Abstract Familial dysautonomia (FD) is a rare genetic neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorder. In addition to

Comprehensive proteomics of CSF, plasma, and urine identify DDC and other biomarkers of early Parkinson’s disease

open access: yesActa Neuropathologica
Parkinson’s disease (PD) starts at the molecular and cellular level long before motor symptoms appear, yet there are no early-stage molecular biomarkers for diagnosis, prognosis prediction, or monitoring therapeutic response.

Dynamic Field Theory of Executive Function: Identifying Early Neurocognitive Markers

open access: yesMonographs of the Society for Research in Child Development, Volume 89, Issue 3, Page 7-109, December 2024.
Abstract In this Monograph, we explored neurocognitive predictors of executive function (EF) development in a cohort of children followed longitudinally from 30 to 54 months of age. We tested predictions of a dynamic field model that explains development in a benchmark measure of EF development, the dimensional change card sort (DCCS) task.

Update of the Xylella spp. host plant database

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2018., 2018
Abstract Following a request from the European Commission, EFSA periodically updates the database on the host plants of Xylella spp. While previous editions of the database (2015 and 2016) dealt with the species Xylella fastidiosa only, this database version addresses the whole genus Xylella, including therefore both species X.

Nrf2 Ameliorates DDC-Induced Sclerosing Cholangitis and Biliary Fibrosis and Improves the Regenerative Capacity of the Liver.

open access: yesToxicological Sciences, 2019
The Nrf2 pathway protects against oxidative stress and induces regeneration of various tissues. Here, we investigated whether Nrf2 protects from sclerosing cholangitis and biliary fibrosis and simultaneously induces liver regeneration.

A PAX3 insertion in the Celestial breed and certain feline breeding lines with dominant blue eyes

open access: yesAnimal Genetics, Volume 55, Issue 4, Page 670-675, August 2024.
Abstract During the last 60 years many inherited traits in domestic outbred cats were selected and retained giving birth to new breeds characterised by singular coat or morphological phenotypes. Among them, minimal white spotting associated with blue eyes was selected by feline breeders to create the Altai, Topaz, and Celestial breeds.

Eggshells as hosts of bacterial communities: An experimental test of the antimicrobial egg coloration hypothesis

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 7, Issue 22, Page 9711-9719, November 2017., 2017
Microbes on animals’ eggs can threaten the developing embryo. Lab experiments have shown that protoporphyrin, a widespread avian eggshell pigment, could provide an antibacterial defense. Our experiment in more natural conditions found no such effect, which could narrow the field of evolutionary explanations for the diversity of avian eggshell ...

Vaccination for the prevention of equine herpesvirus‐1 disease in domesticated horses: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Volume 38, Issue 3, Page 1858-1871, May/June 2024.
Abstract Background Equine herpes virus type 1 (EHV‐1) infection in horses is associated with respiratory and neurologic disease, abortion, and neonatal death. Hypothesis Vaccines decrease the occurrence of clinical disease in EHV‐1‐infected horses.
