Visual histological assessment of morphological features reflects the underlying molecular profile in invasive breast cancer: a morphomolecular study

open access: yesHistopathology, Volume 77, Issue 4, Page 631-645, October 2020., 2020
Aims Tumour genotype and phenotype are related and can predict outcome. In this study, we hypothesised that the visual assessment of breast cancer (BC) morphological features can provide valuable insight into underlying molecular profiles. Methods and results The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) BC cohort was used (n = 743) and morphological features ...

Large vs. Small NHC Ligands in Nickel(0) Complexes: The Coordination of Olefins, Ketones and Aldehydes at [Ni(NHC)2]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Inorganic Chemistry, Volume 2020, Issue 33, Page 3194-3207, September 7, 2020., 2020
The reactivity of [Ni(Mes2Im)2] 1 and [Ni(iPr2Im)2] (as provided by [Ni2(iPr2Im)4(µ‐(η2:η2)‐COD)] 2) towards simple olefins, ketones, and aldehydes is reported. This study demonstrates how substrate binding to bis‐NHC nickel complexes can be fine‐tuned upon a change of the sterics of the NHC ligand.

From Topic Networks to Distributed Cognitive Maps: Zipfian Topic Universes in the Area of Volunteered Geographic Information

open access: yesComplexity, Volume 2020, Issue 1, 2020., 2020
Are nearby places (e.g., cities) described by related words? In this article, we transfer this research question in the field of lexical encoding of geographic information onto the level of intertextuality. To this end, we explore Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI) to model texts addressing places at the level of cities or regions with the help ...

A Multifunctional MXene/PVA Hydrogel as a Continuous Ionic Thermoelectric Generator and a Strain/Temperature Sensor

open access: yesSmall, Volume 21, Issue 3, January 22, 2025.
A continuous‐output ion thermoelectric generator based on the redox reaction of Cu/Cu2+ embedded in a flexible MXene/PVA hydrogel is developed to harvest near‐room‐temperature heat. The thermopower is enhanced by reducing the diffusivity of ions via the addition of MXene.

Aging amplifies a gut microbiota immunogenic signature linked to heightened inflammation

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 23, Issue 8, August 2024.
Using ex vivo toll‐like receptor (TLR) reporter cell lines and microbiota transplants into previously germ‐free animals, we investigated how aging alters gut microbiota immunogenic patterns that facilitate low‐grade inflammation. Aged microbiota harbors a greater capacity to activate host inflammatory signaling through TLR4, facilitating barrier ...

A Comparison of Spectral Preprocessing Methods and Their Effects on Nutritional Traits in Cowpea Germplasm

open access: yesLegume Science, Volume 6, Issue 2, June 2024.
ABSTRACT Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L. (Walp)) is a multipurpose legume, which has good nutritional properties. Nutritional parameters assessed conventionally can be labour intensive, costly and time taking for germplasm screening. Near‐infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) is a rapid and nondestructive method, which can facilitate high‐throughput ...

Body Mass Index and Prevalence of Obesity in Brazilian Adult Women: Temporal Comparison of Repeated Population‐Based Cross‐Sectional Surveys

open access: yesJournal of Obesity, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
Background: Obesity is a complex multifactorial disease that has been associated with higher morbidity and mortality. Objectives: This study aimed to compare changes in body mass index (BMI) and obesity prevalence between two cross‐sectional samples of Brazilian women. Furthermore, retrospective assessments of lifetime body weight changes were explored.
