Abstract Soil structure is an important factor interacting with soil erosion and sediment processes. However, few studies have focused on the relationship between soil macroporosity and soil erosion across different terrains. The aim of this study was to quantify and compare soil properties and macroporosity characteristics in collapsing gully areas ...

Creating ecologically sound buildings by integrating ecology, architecture and computational design
Abstract Research is revealing an increasing number of positive effects of nature for humans. At the same time, biodiversity in cities, where most humans live, is often low or in decline. Tangible solutions are needed to increase urban biodiversity. Architecture is a key discipline that has considerable influence on the built‐up area of cities, thereby

Abstract Background Recent advances in technology and computer simulation have expanded the use of virtual manipulatives in engineering education. However, especially in disciplines in which tactile concepts (e.g., force) are included, it has been claimed that learning could be compromised by substituting physical materials with computer simulations ...

ABSTRACT In this article, I offer a rereading of Reinhart Koselleck that puts his work at the center of ongoing debates about how to write histories that can account for humanity's changed and changing relationship to our natural environment—or, in geological terms, to our planet.

Effects of ancient Egypt hypostyle halls on the thermal environment
The Hypostye Hall in ancient Egyptian temples is a system that uses heat capacity to stabilize the thermal environment, similar to the modern Thermo Active Building System (TABS). Using the Great Temple of Amun at Karnak as an example, the value of Hypostyle Hall will be evaluated using physical simulations in this study.

Whole genome sequencing identifies rare genetic variants in familial pancreatic cancer patients
Abstract Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) represents one of the most lethal malignancies with very high mortality and short survival time. About 5–10% of the PDAC patients have a familial predisposition to the disease designated as familial pancreatic cancer (FPC), suggesting genetic modulation of FPC pathogenesis. It is estimated that currently
