Dead Reckoning Using Time Series Regression Models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
International audienceConnected car technology promises to drastically reduce the number of accidents involving vehicles. Nevertheless, this technology requires the vehicle precise location to work.

On higher ground: how well can dynamic body acceleration determine speed in variable terrain? [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
INTRODUCTION: Animal travel speed is an ecologically significant parameter, with implications for the study of energetics and animal behaviour. It is also necessary for the calculation of animal paths by dead-reckoning.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Comparing Dead Reckoning Algorithms for Distributed Car Simulations

open access: yes, 2018
Dead reckoning is an important technique used in distributed virtual environments (DVEs) to mitigate the bandwidth consumption of frequent state updates and the negative effects of network latency.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Dead Reckoning in a Desktop Virtual Environment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Dead reckoning, knowing where one is in relation to a particular location without reference to external landmarks, is a widely cited phenomenon that has been observed in a wide variety of animals.

Dead Reckoning - A Canadian Chamber Musical [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Dead Reckoning is a new Canadian musical composed by Scott Christian, with book and lyrics by Lezlie Wade. Part 1 of this major research project describes the four-year creation and development process of the musical, referencing interviews with ...

A Hybrid Method to Improve the BLE-Based Indoor Positioning in a Dense Bluetooth Environment

open access: yesSensors, 2019
Indoor positioning using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons has attracted considerable attention after the release of the BLE protocol. A number of efforts have been exerted to improve the performance of BLE-based indoor positioning. However, few studies

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.
