Anomalous energy shift of laterally confined two-dimensional excitons
We theoretically investigate the energy of the ground state exciton confined to two-dimensional (2D) monolayers with circular shape. Within an effective mass approach employing a nonlocal screening effect on the Coulomb potential energy, we demonstrate ...

A Layer Correlation Technique for Pion Energy Calibration at the 2004 ATLAS Combined Beam Test [PDF]
A new method for calibrating the hadron response of a segmented calorimeter is developed. It is based on a principal component analysis of the calorimeter layer energy deposits, exploiting longitudinal shower development information to improve the ...

Following high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR‐BT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), patients were classified as responders and nonresponders. Post‐therapy serum induced increased BrdU incorporation and Cyclin E expression of Huh7 and HepG2 cells in nonresponders, but decreased levels in responders.

Phosphorus emitter profile control for silicon solar cell using the doss diffusion technique
The Doped Oxide Solid Source (DOSS) diffusion technique is well suited for fine-tuning of the surface concentration. The dopant surface concentration is important during phosphorus emitter diffusion due to the opposite requirements of a lowly doped ...

We have investigated the size effect in lead zirconate titanate (PZT) thin films with a range of manganese (Mn) doping concentrations. We found that the size effect in the conventional Pt/PZT/Pt thin-film capacitors could be systematically reduced and ...

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

Late Pleistocene pollen flora with Larix from till-covered esker at Hietamäki, Ostrobothnia, western Finland [PDF]
A till-covered layer of clay, fine sand and organic-bearing silt was found at Hietamäki near Haapajärvi, Ostrobothnia (Pohjanmaa), western Finland. The organic-bearing silt layer is an infill sediment in a dead ice hollow within a glaciofluvial formation

Transition metal oxide hetero-structure has great potential for multifunctional devices. However, the degraded physical properties at interface, known as dead-layer behavior, present a main obstacle for device applications. Here we present the systematic study of the dead-layer behavior in La0.67Sr0.33MnO3 thin film grown on SrTiO3 substrate with ozone

Liquid biopsy epigenetics: establishing a molecular profile based on cell‐free DNA
Cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) fragments in plasma from cancer patients carry epigenetic signatures reflecting their cells of origin. These epigenetic features include DNA methylation, nucleosome modifications, and variations in fragmentation. This review describes the biological properties of each feature and explores optimal strategies for harnessing cfDNA ...
