Association Between Individualized Education for Kidney Replacement Therapy Modality Selection and Peritoneal Dialysis Initiation: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is an established home‐based kidney replacement therapy (KRT), but its uptake remains low in Japan. We evaluated whether individualized education in a dedicated outpatient clinic was associated with the initiation of PD.

Effect of DFPP on Ferroptosis in Peripheral Blood CD14+ Monocytes of Hyperlipidemic Patients Involving the ACSL4/LPCAT3/ALOX5 Pathway

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Hyperlipidemia is a major risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Although statins are the cornerstone of lipid‐lowering therapy, their use may be limited in some patients by adverse effects. This study evaluated the possible impact of non‐drug treatment using double‐filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP) on CD14+

Impact of Carbonization Temperature on the Structure and Li Deposition Behavior of 3D Dual Metal Carbon Fibers

open access: yesSmall Structures
Li deposition within lithiophilic–lithiophobic metal carbon fibers is influenced by several structural factors, including electrical conductivity, surface‐bound functional groups, particle size and distribution of the lithiophilic–lithiophobic components,

Fine root morphological characteristics and biomass distribution characteristics of different artificial forests in coastal salt land and their influencing factors

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
To elucidate the ecological adaptations of fine root morphological traits and biomass in tree species with different life forms to coastal saline soil, five species (Robinia pseudoacacia(RP), Sapium sebiferum(SA), Salix matsudana(SM), Quercus virginiana ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Analogues to Slavery, Dancing with the Dead.

open access: yes, 2020
Named after the infamous Madagascan dancing with the dead ritual of Famadihana, DANCING WITH THE DEAD is a group exhibition that aims to illuminate the convergence of memory and corporeality within a larger context of 'deaths' and the multiplicity of ...

Pharmaceutical water systems: a thermal-fluid analysis of pipe dead-legs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The most commonly used technique for flow exchange, fluid isolation and removal in pharmaceutical water systems, is the installation of a branch tee with a conventional two-way outlet port valve.
