Modeling of Dead Lithium Formation During Dissolution

open access: yes, 2020
Lithium metal anode batteries are promising candidates for next generation energy storage systems as they have a high theoretical energy density. In order to make them commercially viable, the cyclabilty has to be improved.

Extraction of lithium from the dead sea

Hydrometallurgy, 1981
Abstract Present and future uses of lithium and its compounds are briefly reviewed. A method for the extraction of lithium from the Dead Sea involving its precipitation as lithium aluminate followed by solvent extraction to separate the lithium from aluminium is described. An economic evaluation of the method is given.

"Dead" Lithium: Interface Evolution and Characterization

ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2019
During stripping of lithium metal anode, some fraction of lithium becomes detached from the lithium anode. This remnant lithium is electrochemically inactive and is called “dead” lithium. This leads to irreversible loss of capacity and lowers the Coulombic efficiency of the battery.

Investigation of Lithium Dendrite Necking and Formation of Dead Lithium Crystals

ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2014
We have investigated the mechanism of formation of dead lithium in manually-fabricated symmetric lithium metal cells. Furthermore, we have characterized the amount of dead lithium based on current intensity and number of cycles and it’s effect on cell impedance.

Lithium Metal Anodes: Operando Observation of Nucleation, Dendrite Growth, and Dead Lithium Formation

ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2020
Lithium (Li) metal anodes have experienced a resurgence of research in recent years, which has been fueled by advances in electrolyte chemistry (both solid and liquid), interfacial engineering, and rational design of electrode architectures1. This has enabled Coulombic efficiency values to push above 99.5%, and cycle life to extend into relevant ...

Multi‐Effect Ionic Liquid Additives Achieve High Cycle Stability Lithium‐Sulfur Batteries by Constructing an Electrostatic Shielding Layer and Eliminating ‘Dead Sulfur’

Advanced Functional Materials
Lithium‐sulfur (Li‐S) batteries are considered the most promising alternative for energy storage, however, their practical applications are still limited by lithium dendrites growth, slow lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) conversion kinetics, shuttle effect ...

Separation of lithium from dead sea brines by gel permeation chromatography

Talanta, 1973
Fractionation of Dead Sea brines by differential migration through a polyacrylamide gel is shown to be feasible. Lithium-enriched fractions obtained in the process contain no calcium or magnesium and only small quantities of sodium and potassium.
