Abstract The multicenter FEBSTAT study (Consequences of Prolonged Febrile Seizures in Childhood: https://grantome.com/grant/NIH/R37‐NS043209‐12; PI S. Shinnar) examined the outcome of febrile status epilepticus (FSE) in over 200 prospectively enrolled infants, with many followed for 10 years after FSE.

Abstract Objective Late‐onset unexplained epilepsy (LoUE), defined as epilepsy onset after age 55 without an obvious cause, is an important risk factor for dementia. Studies have shown that 10%–25% of individuals with LoUE develop dementia within 3–4 years following their first seizure.

Ultra‐refractory epilepsy: The newly described entity
Abstract Objective Drug‐resistant epilepsy (DRE) is defined as the failure of two antiseizure medications (ASMs) to achieve complete seizure control, affecting approximately 30% of epilepsy patients. In some cases, additional ASMs and surgical approaches are also unsuccessful.
