In Situ Curing‐Enabled 3D Printing of Continuous Fiber‐Reinforced Thermosetting Composites

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, EarlyView.
In situ curing‐enabled the 3D printing of continuous fiber/thermoset composites, which were reviewed. Particularly, four types of in situ curing, were discussed, including Radiation‐induced curing, photothermal curing, electrothermal curing, and frontal polymerization. AI‐integrated printing was also analyzed.

Hierarchical Reaction‐Induced Phase Separation in Epoxy/Oligomeric Poly(phenylene ether) Blends: Multiscale Structural and Mechanical Heterogeneity

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, EarlyView.
Hierarchical morphology does not always improve toughness. In epoxy/oPPE blends, curing creates oPPE‐rich primary domains containing nanoscale secondary heterogeneity, as revealed by microscopy, X‐ray scattering, and AFM nanomechanics. Fracture observations show that primary domain–matrix interfacial separation limits tensile ductility despite the ...

Hydroxy‐Functionalized Near‐Infrared Squaraine Dyes for Advanced Organic Conjugates and Hybrid Materials

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
The synthesis of hydroxy‐linker functionalized near‐infrared squaraine dyes is detailed and coupling reactions with silica nanoparticles, polymer end groups and an electron acceptor are demonstrated. New avenues of chemically linked near‐infrared organic conjugates and hybrid materials in fluorescence imaging, as photothermal additives or for ...

Evaluating structural resistance and updating modeling uncertainties through testing

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract The aging of infrastructure necessitates a robust and rational methodology for the assessment of existing structures. Design codes provide general models which cover different design scenarios and are thus overly conservative. Also, such design approaches lack field data and, if applied directly to existing works, often lead to unnecessarily ...

Evaluation of cold joint effects on the microstructure and mechanical behavior of three‐dimensional printed concrete specimen

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract 3D concrete printing (3DCP) is an automated construction technique that uses an extrusion process to fabricate structures efficiently. However, the layer‐by‐layer process can create interlayer weaknesses, and interruptions during printing can result in cold joints, which can negatively affect the structural behavior.

Contribution of dowel action to interfacial shear transfer in flat joints with unbonded posttensioned bars for precast segmental bridges

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract Dry joints are widely used in precast segmental bridge construction because they simplify assembly and accelerate erection. Incorporating fasteners crossing flat dry joints represents an innovative configuration for this type of connection.
