Debonding of particles in thin films
AbstractThin composite films consisting of a matrix with embedded particles are currently being developed both as hard, wear resistant coatings and as functional surfaces. The effect of stiff particles in the film are studied for systems where the film is under residual tensile stresses. The particles, when they are fully bonded to the matrix, increase

Prediction of Effective Moduli of Carbon Nanotube-Reinforced Composites with Waviness and Debonding
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been regarded as ideal reinforcements of high-performance composites with enormous applications. However, the waviness of the CNTs and the interfacial bonding condition between them and the matrix are two key factors that ...

Low‐Outgassing Liquid Metal–Silicone Composites for Multifunctional Space Applications
Integrating liquid metal microdroplets into a space‐grade silicone creates a multifunctional composite while preserving its inherent flexibility and low‐outgassing behavior. The composite has 11×$\times$ higher thermal conductivity while remaining thermally stable and maintaining a total mass loss of ≤$\le$ 1% under thermal vacuum testing.

This study combines full‐field tomography with diffraction mapping to quantify radial (ε002$\varepsilon _{002}$) and axial (ε100$\varepsilon _{100}$) lattice strain in wrinkled carbon‐fiber specimens for the first time. Radial microstrain gradients (−14.5 µεMPa$\varepsilon \mathrm{MPa}$−1) are found to signal damage‐prone zones ahead of failure, which ...

Guided Wave Propagation in Detection of Partial Circumferential Debonding in Concrete Structures
The following article presents results of investigating the damage detection in reinforced concrete beams with artificially introduced debonding between the rod and cover, using a non-destructive method based on elastic waves propagation. The primary aim
