Frequency, cost, and time to re‐treatment after active periodontal therapy

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Supportive periodontal therapy (SPT) reduces the probability of infection reoccurrence further disease progression. Despite that, several patient/tooth related variables have been linked to tooth loss during SPT. This longitudinal study examines the correlation between periodontal staging, grading, initial therapy, and frequency ...

The Use of Immersive Visualization for the Control of Dental Anxiety During Oral Debridement.

open access: yesJournal of dental hygiene : JDH, 2017
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of Immersive Visualization (IV) eyewear on anxious, adult patients during oral debridement.Thirty adult volunteers (n=23 females; n=7 males) were enrolled in the study. Participants were required to be 18 years or older, exhibit at least moderate anxiety (score 9 or higher) on the Corah's Dental ...

Excess cement and peri‐implant disease: A cross‐sectional clinical endoscopic study

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Crown cementation is a common technique for implant‐supported prosthodontics. However, for possible slipping of the cement below the mucosal margin, its thorough removal poses some issues. The objective of this study was to evaluate the presence of submucosal cement residues in patients with peri‐implant disease by endoscopic ...

Association between periodontitis severity and prostate‐specific antigen levels using the NHANES data

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Periodontitis has been linked to various systemic health conditions. This study investigated whether the association between periodontitis and prostate‐specific antigen (PSA) is direct or mediated through intermediary systemic diseases.

Treatment of peri‐implantitis with diode laser or mucosal flap surgery: A clinical randomized controlled trial

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Peri‐implantitis poses a major challenge as contemporary nonsurgical treatments show dissatisfactory results and mucosal flap surgery is often needed. Diode lasers can remove granulation tissue and submucosal bacteria, and if it achieves similar clinical results, then it could be used as a less invasive first approach.
