Debris-covered glaciers as habitat for plant and arthropod species : environmental framework and colonization patterns

open access: yes, 2017
Debris-covered glaciers are glaciers with the largest part of the ablation zone covered by a debris layer. Recent papers showed that debris-covered glaciers are able to support plant and arthropod life, advancing the hypothesis that such landforms could ...

Heat Flux Modeling on Debris-Covered Glaciers

open access: yes, 2011
A one-dimensional heat flux model has been developed in this study to analyze changes in heat propagation within debris cover on a glacier and the subsequent melt. The model can accept data collected in situ for calculations of real modeled melt, and also synthetic data based on simple wave forms and debris physical characteristics.

Use of multispectral Aster images for mapping debris -covered glaciers within the GLIMS project

open access: yes, 2004
The problem of mapping debris-covered glaciers using images derived from satellite-borne optical scanners is addressed in this paper. Results using also TERRA-ASTER images on the Belvedere and Miage Glaciers, both located in the Italian Alps, are ...
