Preliminary numerical studies of an experimental facility for heat removal in natural circulation

open access: yes, 2016
In the recent years particular attention has been dedicated to the study of passive safety systems for the heat removal in nuclear power plants. The reason resides in the degree of safety they can achieve, as they carry out their mission relying solely ...

Dual‐Function Interface Engineering for δ‐Phase‐Free Crystallization Toward Efficient and Stable FAPbI3 Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents a dual‐function interface engineering strategy using PEACl to suppress the formation of the non‐perovskite δ‐FAPbI3 phase at the critical SnO2 buried interface. This approach enables the direct crystallization of the photoactive α‐phase, yielding highly efficient and stable rigid (25.6%) and flexible perovskite solar cells with ...

Passive decay heat removal for solid breeder blanket

open access: yes, 2016
Decay heat produced by neutron irradiation causes temperature rise of blanket under loss of cooling events. Temperature rise becomes large with increase of neutron wall loading (NWL). NWL is expected to increase in DEMO compared to ITER.

Dual‐Salt Carbothermal Shock Strategy Enabling Ultrafast and Sustainable Regeneration of Spent LiFePO4 Cathode Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) accounts for over 50% of the global cathode market, underscoring the need for efficient recycling and regeneration. We propose a dual‐salt carbothermal shock (CTS) strategy using LiI and NaI to in situ repair Li vacancies.

Binder Engineering Suppresses Jahn–Teller‐Driven Mn Dissolution and Enables High‐Loading MnO2 Cathodes for Aqueous Zn‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A Zn2+‐coordinated poly(vinylidene fluoride) binder is shown to suppress Jahn–Teller‐driven Mn dissolution while improving dispersion, wettability, and structural integrity in thick MnO2 cathodes. This simple binder‐engineering strategy enables high‐loading aqueous Zn‐ion batteries with enhanced areal capacity, cycling stability, and practical promise ...

DECAY HEAT CONDITIONS OF CURRENT AND NEXT GENERATION REACTORS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Decay heat is an important parameter in reactor design. Fission products generate heat in the reactor core even when the reactor has shut down. This heat has potential to melt the core if heat removal is not sufficient, and it is what caused the accident

Exciton Binding Energy of Phosphorescent Emitter Molecules in Organic Light‐Emitting Diodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Energy level alignment is key to efficient OLED design, yet determining LUMO energies remains challenging. A methodology based on field‐induced dissociation and kinetic Monte Carlo simulations is presented to extract LUMO energies of iridium‐based phosphorescent emitters from their exciton binding energy.
