Comparative study on HTGR designs for passive decay heat removal
Progress in Nuclear Energy, 2015Abstract The design parameters of a small high-temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR) for passive decay heat removal and located either above-ground or underground have been studied in previous works. In the present work, sensitivity analyses on peak temperatures of both the core and reactor building (RB) after reactor shutdown was conducted for both ...

The Passive Heat Removal Facility: Testing and Demonstrating an Innovative Decay Heat Removal System
Nuclear Technology, 2023Innovative reactor concepts are being studied by several research institutions and private entities for their role against climate change and energy poverty. The Generation IV International Forum, committed for more than 20 years in support of advanced reactors, has drawn up a series of objectives for the new class of nuclear plants, among which ...

SEAFP: passive removal of the decay heat
Fusion Engineering and Design, 1995Passive safety is a key issue for the public acceptance of fusion power. Several studies are under way in the European Safety and Environmental Assessment of Fusion Power (SEAFP) program to analyze the possible hazards and the means to keep the system safe.

Reliability studies of decay heat removal system
2010 2nd International Conference on Reliability, Safety and Hazard - Risk-Based Technologies and Physics-of-Failure Methods (ICRESH), 2010Passive systems have been implemented in most of the advanced reactors in order to improve the availability of the plant. In this paper the methodology used for performing the passive system reliability analysis has been discussed. A case study on passive decay heat removal system of large sized PHWRs has also been discussed.

Decay heat removal in the ITER outline design
Fusion Engineering and Design, 1996Abstract Decay heat densities are fairly small in ITER when compared to fission plants. The global decay heat in the water cooled shielding blanket design of ITER (fusion power 1.5 GW) is about 20 MW at shutdown and decreases to 1.5 MW after one day after which it stays fairly constant (1 MW after one month).

Study on decay heat removal of compact ITER
Fusion Engineering and Design, 2001Abstract Since fusion power and neutron fluence of the compact ITER has been reduced, thermal transients due to decay heat of the tokamak components such as in-vessel components and vacuum vessel (VV) were numerically analyzed for the purpose of identifying the necessity of cooling function as the safety measure.
