The articles in this special section focuses on decentralized systems. Our world is filled with decentralized systems, human society and organizations being the most familiar examples. In such systems, we see multiple loci of ownership or control, representing different parties or administrative domains.

Decentralized control of descriptor systems
The authors consider the decentralized stabilization and decentralized servomechanism problem for descriptor systems. Existence conditions and a constructive controller design procedure are given to solve this problem. Two applications, tuning regulator design and sequential synthesis are also discussed.

ON DECENTRALIZED OBSERVATION AND DECENTRALIZED CONTROL OF LARGE SCALE SYSTEMS
Acta Mathematica Scientia, 1991Given a linear large scale system \(\dot x=Ax+Bu\), \(y=Cx\), where the \(n\)- dimensional state vector is composed of \(p\) subvectors \(x_ 1,\dots,x_ p\), and the inputs \(u\) and outputs \(y\) decompose accordingly the problem of decentralized feedback stabilization with a decentralized observer is posed and solved in terms of stabilizability and ...

Decentralized Receiver in a MIMO system
2006 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory, 2006In this paper we investigate the achievable rate of a system that includes a nomadic transmitter with several antennas, which is received by multiple agents, each with a single antenna, suffering independent channel coefficients and additive Gaussian noises. Since the transmitter is nomadic, the agents do not have any decoding ability.

Dependability assessment for decentralized systems
Proceedings ISADS 95. Second International Symposium on Autonomous Decentralized Systems, 2002Conventional dependability measures, such as reliability or availability, assume that the equipment characterized by the measure is either operational or has failed. This dichotomy does not hold for decentralized or distributed systems because these can operate in modes in which partial or degraded service is furnished. Whether a specific degraded mode

Decentralized Bisimulation for Multiagent Systems
International Joint Conference on Autonomous Agents and Multiagent Systems, 2015The notion of bisimulation has been introduced as a powerful way to abstract from details of systems in the formal verification community. When applying to multiagent systems, classical bisimulations will allow one agent to make decisions based on full histories of others. Thus, as a general concept, classical bisimulations are unrealistically powerful
