A Neuroevolutionary Approach to Controlling Traffic Signals Based on Data from Sensor Network

open access: yesSensors, 2019
The paper introduces an artificial neural network ensemble for decentralized control of traffic signals based on data from sensor network. According to the decentralized approach, traffic signals at each intersection are controlled independently using ...

Monte-Carlo expectation maximization for decentralized POMDPs

open access: yes, 2013
We address two significant drawbacks of state-of-the-art solvers of decentralized POMDPs (DECPOMDPs): the reliance on complete knowledge of the model and limited scalability as the complexity of the domain grows.

A Novel Locality Algorithm and Peer-to-Peer Communication Infrastructure for Optimizing Network Performance in Smart Microgrids

open access: yesEnergies, 2017
Peer-to-Peer (P2P) overlay communications networks have emerged as a new paradigm for implementing distributed services in microgrids due to their potential benefits: they are robust, scalable, fault-tolerant, and they can route messages even when a ...

Asymmetric Single‐Atom Catalysts Govern Diffusible and Non‐Diffusible Non‐Radical Pathways for Selective Degradation of Antibiotic Resistance Genes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Asymmetric single‐atom metal‐nitrogen‐carbon catalysts modulate the non‐radical pathway during peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation. A fundamental contrast was revealed between diffusible singlet oxygen (1O2) and non‐diffusible electron‐transfer pathways (ETP) in antibiotic resistance gene (ARG) degradation.

The Plant‐to‐Plant Circular Strategy: Coupling Photodegradation and Phytoremediation With Plant‐Based Nanomaterials for Plastic Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Plant‐based nanomaterials derived from alfalfa serve as dual‐function catalysts, coupling photodegradation and phytoremediation to degrade polyethylene under UV‐A light and in soil. The nanomaterials work synergistically with alfalfa and soil microbes, achieving efficient plastic breakdown without trophic transfer.

Assessing the Optimality of Decentralized Inspection and Maintenance Policies for Stochastically Degrading Engineering Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Long-term inspection and maintenance (I&M) planning, a multi-stage stochastic optimization problem, can be efficiently formulated as a partially observable Markov decision process (POMDP).

Investigations of the Evolved Molecular Basis for Terpenoid Biosynthesis in Marine Sponges

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Confirming and extending a previous observation in another Bubarida sponge, genomic and functional analyses of A. cavernosa reveal that sponges retain the mevalonate pathway and employ single α‐domain T1TSs and UbiA‐type TSs for terpenoid biosynthesis. The absence of T1TSs clustering with other biosynthetic genes tentatively suggests, based on limited ...
