Rising CO2 drives divergence in water use efficiency of evergreen and deciduous plants

open access: yesScience Advances, 2019
A rapid rise in CO2 has made evergreen trees more waterwise than deciduous trees, especially in cooler parts of the world. Intrinsic water use efficiency (iWUE), defined as the ratio of photosynthesis to stomatal conductance, is a key variable in plant ...

Effect of the sodium hypochlorite and citric acid association on smear layer removal of primary molars Efeito da associação de hipoclorito de sódio e ácido cítrico na remoção de "smear layer" de molares decíduos

open access: yesBrazilian Oral Research, 2005
This study aimed to assess the capacity of a sodium hypochlorite and citric acid (CA) association (the latter at different concentrations) in removing coronal smear layer (SL) of primary teeth.

National mapping and estimation of forest area by dominant tree species using Sentinel-2 data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Nation-wide Sentinel-2 mosaics were used with National Forest Inventory (NFI) data for modelling and subsequent mapping of spruce, pine and deciduous forest in Norway in 16 m $\times$ 16 m resolution. The accuracies of the best model ranged between 74% for spruce and 87% for deciduous forest.

Spatial variance of spring phenology in temperate deciduous forests is constrained by background climatic conditions

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Leaf unfolding in temperate forests is driven by spring temperature, but little is known about the spatial variance of that temperature dependency. Here we use in situ leaf unfolding observations for eight deciduous tree species to show that the two ...

Assessment of Tooth Shade in Primary Dentition among Indian Paediatric Population and its Association with Skin, Lip and Gingival Colour: An Observational Study [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2018
Introduction: Assessment of dental aesthetics is a complex procedure because a large number of factors can contribute to aesthetic perceptions. These factors include hard tissue characteristics such as tooth colour, shape and alignment, and soft tissue ...

Phenotypic Variation and Peel Contribution to Fruit Antioxidant Contents in European and Japanese Plums

open access: yesPlants, 2022
Herein, we studied the variation in leaf and fruit morphological traits and antioxidant contents in 43 local and foreign cultivars (cvs) grown under the same experimental conditions in the widely cultivated plum species Prunus domestica and Prunus ...

Tree size distribution as the stationary limit of an evolutionary master equation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
The diameter distribution of a given species of deciduous trees in mature, temperate zone forests is well approximated by a Gamma distribution. Here we give new experimental evidence for this conjecture by analyzing deciduous tree size data in mature semi-natural forest and ancient, traditionally managed wood-pasture from Central Europe.

Genome-Wide Identification of GAST Family Members and Their Potential Roles in Epicotyl Dormancy in Chinese Cork Oak (Quercus variabilis)

open access: yesPlants
Chinese cork oak (Quercus variabilis Blume) is a widespread tree species with high economic and ecological values. Chinese cork oak exhibits epicotyl dormancy, causing emergence heterogeneity and affecting the quality of seedling cultivation. Gibberellic

Epidemiologic survey of traumatic dental injuries in children seen at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

open access: yesBrazilian Oral Research, 2010
This epidemiologic survey aimed at assessing the prevalence of traumatic dental injuries in children seen at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The records of a total of 111 children (aged 0 to 6 years) seen from 2004 to 2006 in the dental

Non-native tree species growth characteristics inventoried three decades after planting in the Danube Lowland

open access: yesCentral European Forestry Journal, 2023
This paper presents non-native (NN) coniferous and deciduous tree species growth and vitality assessment on experimental research plots established in 1980, 1982 and 1985 in the Danube Lowland over an extended time period. For NN coniferous tree species,
