A Quantum Framework for Protein Binding‐Site Structure Prediction on Utility‐Level Quantum Processors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a hybrid quantum‐classical framework for accurate prediction of protein structures on utility‐level quantum processors. We evaluate the practical application of the Variational Quantum Eigen‐solver (VQE) in protein structure prediction and demonstrate its superiority over state‐of‐the‐art deep learning methods in molecular docking ...

Definition of decoherence [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 1993
We examine the relationship between the decoherence of quantum-mechanical histories of a closed system (as discussed by Gell-Mann and Hartle) and environmentally induced diagonalization of the density operator for an open system. We study a definition of decoherence which incorporates both of these ideas, and show that it leads to a consistent ...

Unraveling Energy Flow Mechanisms in Semiconductors by Ultrafast Spectroscopy: Germanium as a Case Study

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A multi‐technique pump‐probe setup capable of performing both transient reflectivity and time‐resolved Raman spectroscopy after ultrafast excitation, provides a comprehensive understanding of ultrafast electronic and phononic processes. Distinct decay rates for the temperature, frequency, and linewidth of the phonon mode in germanium are observed ...

Classical signature of quantum annealing

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2014
A pair of recent articles concluded that the D-Wave One machine actuallyoperates in the quantum regime, rather than performing some classical evolution.

Suppression of decoherence in a generalization of the spin-bath model

open access: yes, 2010
The works on decoherence due to spin baths usually agree in studying a one-spin system in interaction with a large spin bath. In this paper we generalize those models by analyzing a many-spin system and by studying decoherence or its suppression in ...

Experimental Joint Estimation of Phase and Phase Diffusion Via Deterministic Bell Measurements

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work employs Bell measurement, a form of entangling measurement, to estimate both the phase and its fluctuations in an optical interferometer. By incorporating a novel quantum effect at the measurement stage, the proposed method achieves the ultimate precision limit and demonstrates the significant potential of entangling measurements in multi ...

Implementation of Classical Communication in a Quantum World

open access: yesInformation, 2012
Observations of quantum systems carried out by finite observers who subsequently communicate their results using classical data structures can be described as “local operations, classical communication” (LOCC) observations.

Critical Limitations in Cryogenic Laser Cooling of Solids: Symmetry‐Related Fluorescence Trapping and Condensation‐Induced Parasitic Heating

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study uncovers two overlooked bottlenecks in cryogenic laser cooling of solids: symmetry‐driven fluorescence trapping and water vapor condensation. We demonstrate that breaking sample symmetry enhances fluorescence escape, while condensation dominates parasitic heating below 135 K.

Equivalence of the Symbol Grounding and Quantum System Identification Problems

open access: yesInformation, 2014
The symbol grounding problem is the problem of specifying a semantics for the representations employed by a physical symbol system in a way that is neither circular nor regressive.
