Color and COD Removal From ECF Effluent by Airlift Reactor With Immobilized Lentinus edodes

open access: yesChemical Engineering &Technology, Volume 49, Issue 5, May 2026.
Airlift bioreactor treating ECF bleaching effluent with Lentinus edodes immobilized on polystyrene fibers achieved up to 48% color and 41% COD removal. Under optimized aeration (300 mL/min) and HRT (78 h) without glucose, COD removal remained stable for 15 days, supporting a low‐input, enzyme‐driven strategy for pulp‐and‐paper wastewater. ABSTRACT This

Sustainable Synthesis of P‐Doped Carbon Nitride From Fertilizer Sources for Enhanced Photocatalysis

open access: yesChemPhotoChem, Volume 10, Issue 5, May 2026.
A new P‐doped carbon nitride was synthesized from the combination of thiourea and (NH4)2HPO4 by a straightforward and mild approach. The final material shows a fourfold higher specific surface area and excellent suppression of charge carrier recombination.

Degradation of pigments in Limnospira platensis extracts

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, Volume 106, Issue 7, Page 4426-4438, May 2026.
Abstract BACKGROUND Limnospira platensis, commonly known as spirulina, holds promise for application as a food ingredient and nutraceutical due to its rich protein and antioxidant content, including chlorophylls, carotenoids and phycocyanin. Despite its potential, the vibrant colour poses a challenge for consumer acceptance, hampering the marketability

Mercury (II) Removal From Stock Solutions Using Pulsed Electrochemical Technique Coupled With Biochar Adsorbent

open access: yesChemistryOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, May 2026.
Pulsed electrooxidation combined with magnetic biochar adsorption achieved up to 98.9% Hg(II) removal from synthetic water. Optimal conditions (pH‐6.03, 34.15 min, 1.55 g/L biochar, 0.43 A, 227 mg/L Hg) enhanced efficiency beyond electrooxidation alone, demonstrating a synergistic, energy‐efficient treatment approach.

Decolorization of some azo dyes by direct photolysis and H2O2/UV processes

open access: yesSemina: Ciências Exatas e Tecnológicas, 2009
The decolorization of acid orange 7 (AO7), direct orange 34 (DO 34), direct red 23 (DR23) and direct yellow 86 (DY86) azo dyes was investigated by direct photolysis and hydrogen peroxide-assisted photodegradation respectively in closed and open reactor ...

Indirect Electrochemical Oxidation Using Active Chlorine for Treating Distillery Effluent

open access: yesChemistryOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, May 2026.
Indirect electrochemical oxidation (IEO) using MMO anode and SS cathode generates active chlorine species that rapidly decolorize and degrade organic pollutants in distillery wastewater. Optimization of current (0.27 A), pH (6), NaCl (6 g L−1), and electrode gap (2 cm) resulted in 85% COD removal with low energy demand (19.38 kWh kg−1 COD).

An Ultrasound‐Triggered Antibacterial Hydrogel With Integrated Antioxidant and Angiogenic Functions for Infected Wound Care

open access: yesRare Metals, Volume 45, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Managing diabetic wounds requires simultaneously addressing their infectious, oxidative, and regenerative impairments. To address this, this study integrates a piezoelectric BiOCl@CuSe heterojunction (PFM‐verified) into an injectable F127/HA hydrogel, creating an ultrasound‐responsive smart dressing.

Generation and modulation of catalytically relevant states of a dye‐decolourizing peroxidase using time‐resolved serial femtosecond crystallography with drop‐on‐chip mixing and X‐ray‐driven reduction

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section D, Volume 82, Issue 5, Page 434-445, May 2026.
We characterize the formation of a ferryl state of a dye‐decolourizing peroxidase by drop‐on‐chip serial femtosecond crystallography and also the modulation of the heme redox state using dose‐resolved serial synchrotron crystallography.Metalloenzymes containing a heme cofactor catalyse a wide range of oxidative reactions critical to life. Understanding

Crustacean and Mollusc Shell Proteins: Origin, Structure, and Functionality

open access: yesJournal of Food Science, Volume 91, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Crustacean and molluscan processing as seafood generates a significant amount of shell waste annually, owing to the dense, mineral‐rich composition of the exoskeleton. Although valorization efforts have mostly focused on chitin and chitosan, the protein fraction remains underutilized despite its prominent nutritional, functional, and sensory ...

A MaERF110‐MaMYB308 Transcriptional Module Negatively Regulates Lignin‐Mediated Defence Against Fusarium Wilt in Banana

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 5, Page 2811-2825, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Fusarium wilt of banana (FWB), caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense (Foc), threatens global banana production. Lignin reinforces cell walls against pathogens and lodging, yet its regulatory mechanisms in banana remain elusive. Through genome‐wide association study (GWAS) of lignin content across 184 banana accessions, we identified ...
