The relative importance of neighborhood environment features in explaining preeclampsia risk using machine learning

open access: yesPregnancy, Volume 2, Issue 6, November 2026.
Abstract Introduction Disentangling the role of the neighborhood environment in preeclampsia pathogenesis is crucial for addressing social and structural determinants of pregnancy health. Building on epidemiologic studies demonstrating environmental associations with preeclampsia, we used a machine learning approach to determine the relative importance

Crowder‐specific modulation of hepatitis C virus NS3/4A protease activity and local structural dynamics

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 11, November 2026.
Abstract Macromolecular crowding modulates enzyme behavior in crowder‐ and protein‐specific ways, yet its impact on viral proteases, which are often key therapeutic targets, remains unclear. Here, we investigated the hepatitis C virus NS3/4A protease under increasing concentrations of polyethylene glycols (PEGs), ficoll, dextran, and lysozyme using ...

Site‐specific O‐glycans influence lacritin structure and multimerization in tears

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 11, November 2026.
Abstract Lacritin is an abundantly expressed glycoprotein in tear fluid and plays key roles in immune response, tear secretion, and bacterial killing. These biological functions are tightly regulated through several biochemical mechanisms including multimerization, proteolysis, and alternative splicing, especially within its C‐terminal domain.

Ocular Manifestations of Metabolic Syndrome: A Systemic Vascular Phenotype

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Volume 28, Issue 11, Page 9809-9818, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Context Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is defined by central obesity, insulin resistance, hypertension and dyslipidemia. MetS affects over one‐third of US adults. Beyond its cardiovascular burden, MetS has clinically relevant associations with ocular health and may contribute to a systemic vascular and neuro‐metabolic phenotype involving the retina,

Scheduling optimization of optical lens polishing

open access: yesInternational Transactions in Operational Research, Volume 33, Issue 6, Page 3744-3768, November 2026.
Abstract Optical systems have achieved notable progress in focusing and imaging technologies; however, manual grinding remains indispensable, resulting in elevated costs, extended timelines, and inefficiencies. These difficulties are compounded by operational constraints, uneven machine utilization, and risks of order delays and escalating expenses ...
