External and Internal Cracking Caused by Heat Treatment in Laser Powder Bed Fusion‐Fabricated Inconel 738LC Components

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Manufacturing problems such as heat treatment‐induced cracking hinder the widespread application of the laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) process to superalloys. In this study, cracks in the LPBF components of Inconel 738LC superalloy are characterized after heat treatment at various temperature ranges, revealing two distinct cracking behaviors.

Non-linear finite element analysis of reinforced concrete deep beam with web opening

open access: yesJournal of Civil Engineering
The use of Reinforced Concrete (RC) deep beams in the building may require web openings or holes for electrical and mechanical utility passage. This web opening will change the behavior of the RC deep beam and may result in early cracks even at service ...

Uniform Amorphization of Crystalline Silicon Surfaces Enabled by Deep Ultraviolet Femtosecond Laser Pulses

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Deep‐UV (258 nm) femtosecond pulses enable uniform amorphous silicon writing on Si(100)/(111) with a six‐fold larger fluence amorphization window than NIR methods. Optimized fluence and overlap yield 20–45 nm uniform and continuous amorphous layers. Microscopy shows sharp interfaces, and real‐time reflectivity reveals nanosecond melt–resolidification ...

Behavior of ultra-high-performance concrete deep beams reinforced by basalt fibers

open access: yesOpen Engineering
Deep beams are crucial for construction projects due to their load-carrying capacity, shear resistance, and architectural adaptability. Ultra-high strength concrete and ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) are used in their production.

Beam search heuristics for quadratic earliness and tardiness scheduling [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper, we present beam search heuristics for the single machine scheduling problem with quadratic earliness and tardiness costs, and no machine idle time. These heuristics include classic beam search procedures, as well as filtered and recovering

Investigating the Effect of Inclination Angle and the Influence of Scan Parameters on the Appearance and Thermal and Mechanical Properties of Filigree Tension Rods of LPBF‐Manufactured NiTi Shape‐Memory Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article investigates the dependence of the properties on the manufacturing orientation in the form of the inclination angle to the build plate of LPBF‐fabricated NiTi rods with a diameter of 150–220 µm. Metallographic, chemical, thermal, and mechanical characterization show behavior under identical manufacturing conditions that ranges from ...
