Deep-etched sinusoidal polarizing beam splitter grating

Applied Optics, 2010
A sinusoidal-shaped fused-silica grating as a highly efficient polarizing beam splitter (PBS) is investigated based on the simplified modal method. The grating structure depends mainly on the ratio of groove depth to grating period and the ratio of incident wavelength to grating period.

Beaming Daylight Into Deep Rooms

Batiment International, Building Research and Practice, 1985
Among the options of reducing energy consumption by artificial lighting in buildings is the effective use of natural lighting. By using direct-beam radiation from the sun, deeper light penetration and higher illuminance levels can be achieved in buildings that are predominantly used in the daytime.

Deep Beam with Opening

2018
A propped deep beam with opening is considered. This scenario has been the subject of past fib bulletins on strut and-tie modelling. The deep beam has height 4 m and span 11 m. The bottom left-hand corner is supported by a force 3000 kN and the right-hand edge is fixed to an adjacent shear wall. The deep beam is loaded on top by a point load 5000 kN at

Shear Strength of Deep Beams

ACI Journal Proceedings, 1982
Results of tests on 52 deep reinforced concrete beams under two equal symmetrically placed point loads are reported. The investigation's objectives were to study the effect of vertical and horizontal web reinforcement and shear span-to-effective depth ratio on inclined cracking shear, ultimate shear strength, midspan deflection, tension reinforcement ...

Minimum Web Reinforcement in Deep Beams

ACI Structural Journal, 2013
An experimental study was performed to examine current code requirements for minimum web reinforcement of reinforced concrete deep beams. Twelve full-scale tests were conducted in which the shear span-depth ratio (a/d) was 1.2, 1.85, or 2.5. At each a/d, the quantity of web reinforcement was the primary variable. Web reinforcement ranged from 0 to 0.3%

Confinement of Deep Beam Nodal Regions

ACI Structural Journal, 2010
This study seeks to evaluate the benefits of triaxial confinement that occur when the loaded area of a deep beam based on a strut-and-tie model (STM) is surrounded by concrete on all sides. Five full-scale beams with a span-depth ratio of 1.85 were fabricated and tested. Two tests were conducted on each beam.

Inelastic deformations of wide beams and deep beams

2017
Current formulations proposed by Eurocode 8 part 3 for the inelastic deformations of existing reinforced concrete members are assessed aimed at finding out whether they are representative of beams with different cross-sectional aspect ratio, in particular for wide beams (WB) contrasted with conventional deep beams (DB).
