Experimental Investigation of an Earthquake‐Resistant Steel Bridge Substructure System

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, Volume 54, Issue 8, Page 2009-2030, 10 July 2025.
ABSTRACT The grouted shear stud connection has been experimentally shown to provide two‐column steel bridge bent systems with seismic resistance. It achieves this by relocating the plastic hinging to the column section, thereby mobilizing the full strength and ductility of the steel columns.

Performance of Seismically Isolated and Non‐Isolated Steel‐Framed Buildings: Sensitivity to Amount and Form of Inherent Damping

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, Volume 54, Issue 9, Page 2155-2171, 25 July 2025.
ABSTRACT The amount of inherent damping assumed in nonlinear response history analysis of steel buildings is typically set at 2% or less for the fundamental mode of vibration. However, many studies have shown that actual damping levels vary depending on the building characteristics and soil conditions, and methodologies used in measurements of damping ...

Understanding Volatile Electrical Switching in hBN Nanodevices by Fully Optical Operando Investigation

open access: yesSmall, Volume 21, Issue 26, July 3, 2025.
Operando optical characterization of vertical two‐terminal monolayer hexagonal Boron Nitride devices is used to gain new insight into the key role of defects in the dynamics of switching. Characterization of photoluminescence and dark‐field scattering light signals during electrical switching indicates that the formation of conductive filaments of gold

Standards for MicroED

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section C, Volume 81, Issue 7, Page 376-390, July 2025.
With an increasing number of refined MicroED structures available to the community, lessons can be learned of their profiles and quality, as well as of best practices. As the electron diffraction technique MicroED gains momentum and is increasingly embraced by researchers in both academia and industry, we have the opportunity to familiarize ourselves ...

Thermo‐Mechanical Fatigue Investigation of Inconel 718 Based on Miniature Specimen Testing

open access: yesFatigue &Fracture of Engineering Materials &Structures, Volume 48, Issue 7, Page 3007-3018, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Thermo‐mechanical fatigue (TMF) is a critical degradation mechanism affecting gas turbine components. Testing under realistic loading conditions, such as TMF, is essential for these highly stressed, safety‐relevant components. Most existing test setups utilize standard specimens that rarely represent the geometrical sizes of the actual engine ...
