Permeability, Pore Throat Size, Meteoric Influx, and Biomass Control the Depth‐Distribution of Microbial Biosignatures in Sedimentary Basin Fluids

open access: yesAGU Advances, Volume 7, Issue 6, September 2026.
Abstract The few studies of modern or ancient subsurface microbial communities beyond ∼100 m depth limit our view into the vast and complex deep terrestrial biosphere. In sedimentary systems, growing isotopic and molecular data sets of fluids, co‐produced with hydrocarbons, provide an unprecedented opportunity to evaluate the depth‐distribution of ...

Re‐Evaluating the Thermogenic Decarbonation During Large Igneous Provinces Emplacement Using Temperature‐Dependent Thermal Properties

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Large Igneous Provinces emplacement drives mass extinctions through rapid carbon release, but the relative contributions of magmatic degassing versus thermogenic decarbonation remain debated. Here, we incorporate temperature‐dependent thermal parameters into models of contact metamorphism around intruding sills.

Depositional History of the Namibian Mud Belt Reveals Late Holocene Weakening of the Benguela Coastal Current

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract We investigate late Holocene changes in the northern Benguela Upwelling System using a multi‐proxy approach on shallow shelf deposits from the Namibian mud belt. Three sediment cores characterized by organic carbon‐rich, anoxic, and partly gas‐bearing sediments were retrieved along a sampling transect at 23°S in August 2019.

Post‐Wildfire Debris Flow Rheology of Mixed Hydrophobicity Sands

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Post‐wildfire debris flows can have devastating effects on structures and transportation lifelines. Surficial sandy soil layers become hydrophobic during wildfires, and post‐wildfire rainfall has been shown to lead to air entrapment and excessive erosion.

Tectono‐Stratigraphic Evolution of a Shared Foreland Basin: A 3D Geomodel and Detrital Flux Reconstruction for the Pliocene‐Pleistocene of the Po‐Plain Basin (Northern Italy)

open access: yesBasin Research, Volume 38, Issue 5, September‐October 2026.
The Plio‐Pleistocene succession of the Po Plain Basin was interpreted basin‐wide using seismic profiles and well data, identifying six major tectonic unconformities. Sediment volumes were calculated and decompacted to assess tectonic and climatic controls on basin infill, revealing a marked increase in detrital flux after 1.5 Ma, coincident with the ...
