On the temporal evolution of earth pressures in deep excavations in soft clay [Elektronisk resurs]
Urbanisation and sustainable development of cities drives the need to increasingly utilise underground space. Consequently, there is more demand for deeper and larger excavations in urban areas, pushing the limits of current engineering experience.

Seismic analysis and design of tunnels within fault ground: A review
The research methods of seismic response of tunnels within fault ground, including field investigations, analytical solutions, physical experiments, and numerical simulations, and seismic countermeasures are discussed. The present study examines the shortcomings and limitations of the current research and design, and puts forward proposals for future ...

Dynamic cracking properties and generating conditions of coal under rapid gas release
Gas release tests revealed that crack initiation and propagation are jointly controlled by initial crack length, residual strength, and gas release velocity. A new outburst risk coefficient was thus developed from a fracture mechanics perspective, offering a novel predictive approach.

The tensile strength of granite, a proposed host for nuclear waste, degrades severely above 400°C. We link this to specific microcracking patterns captured by acoustic emission, establishing a scientific basis for assessing repository safety under thermal load.

High atmospheric pressure (120 kPa) in deep underground counteracts humidity‐induced physiological stress in plants, stabilizing water balance and enhancing antioxidative defenses. This synergy boosts biomass despite elevated humidity, demonstrating sustainable deep underground agriculture potential under climate uncertainty.
