Eocene Tectonic Change in the South Pacific Caused Exhumation of the Transantarctic Mountains in Northern Victoria Land, Antarctica

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Geology and Geophysics, Volume 69, Issue 1, March 2026.
Apatite fission‐track and (U‐Th)/He data indicate rapid exhumation of northern Victoria Land at 40–30 Ma, correlating with opening of Adare Trough at 43–28 Ma. Exhumation was greatest close to the Ross Sea, consistent with other regions of the Transantarctic Mountains.

Understanding the Costs and Benefits of Deepwater Oil Drilling Regulation [PDF]

open access: yes
The purpose of this paper is to provide a conceptual framework for understanding how analysis of costs and benefits might be incorporated into an assessment of regulatory policies affecting deepwater drilling.

Risk-based Reliability Assessment of Subsea Control module for Offshore Oil and Gas production [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Offshore oil and gas exploitation is principally conducted using dry or wet tree systems, otherwise called the subsea Xmas tree system. Due to the shift to deeper waters, subsea production system (SPS) has come to be a preferred technology with ...

Salt-Resistant Lubricant for Deep Water Drilling Fluids

open access: yesZuanjingye yu wanjingye
In deepwater drilling, drilling fluids are affected by seawater, highly mineralized brine, and polyvalent metal ions. Conventional lubricants such as mineral oils, vegetable oils, and fatty acids often exhibit poor dispersion and incompatibility in high ...

Prediction and risk assessment of natural gas hydrate formation in deepwater wellbores

open access: yesYou-qi chuyun, 2020
Hydrate formed in the wellbore during deepwater shallow drilling will affect the operation safety, so it is necessary to predict and analyze the hydrate formation range and degree in the wellbore annulus.

State of the Practice − Sub‐Aqueous In‐Situ Solidification for Contaminated Sediment Remediation

open access: yesRemediation Journal, Volume 36, Issue 4, Autumn 2026.
ABSTRACT In‐situ solidification (ISS) has emerged as a cost‐effective and versatile technology for sediment remediation, particularly for addressing contamination at greater sediment depths. This paper evaluates ISS in the context of conventional sediment remediation approaches, highlighting its advantages, design and implementation considerations, and

Real – Time Geomechanics: Applications to Deepwater Drilling

open access: yes, 2010
Lithologies under deepwater conditions usually show relatively reduced effective stress, due to the reduced lithostatic column. This translates into relatively narrow mud weight windows, driven mainly by shear failure or pore pressure in overpressured ...

Marine Snow Dynamics in the NE Gulf of Mexico: Particle Abundance, Characteristics, and Impacts on Deepwater Horizon Oil Sedimentation

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 131, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract The Deepwater Horizon (DWH) oil spill in the NE Gulf of Mexico in 2010 was the largest accidental spill globally. During and after the spill, oil was incorporated into marine snow (marine‐oil‐snow or MOS) and sedimented to the seafloor, accounting for ∼21% of the oil released.

Deepwater Drilling: Law, Policy, and Economics of Firm Organization and Safety [PDF]

open access: yes
Although the causes of the Deepwater Horizon spill are not yet conclusively identified, significant attention has focused on the safety-related policies and practices—often referred to as the safety culture—of BP and other firms involved in drilling the ...

UK energy security: challenges, threats and solutions

open access: yes, 2011
Over the last few decades, the debate about 'Peak Oil' became increasingly common and frustrating to governments, oil companies and individuals. Also in the last decade or so, some unusual events took places, which have raised the concern about the ...
