Minimal impact of anthropogenic genetic disturbance on the endangered butterfly Luehdorfia japonica (Lepidoptera: Papilionidae) within the Kanto Mountains, Japan

open access: yesEntomological Science, Volume 29, Issue 3, September 2026.
Using genome‐wide SNP analysis, we have elucidated the extent of genetic disturbance in Luehdorfia japonica (Lepidoptera, Papilionidae) at Mt. Ishizare in Japan, where butterfly releases have been carried out in the past. While the results showed genetic disturbance had occurred, the proportion of exotic genetic clusters was remarkably low, ranging ...

Seasonal and spatial dynamics of the diet and rumen microbiome of roe deer in Scotland

open access: yes
Roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) are the most abundant and widespread wild ungulate species in Europe and play a significant role in shaping ecosystems through their browsing activities.

A Practical Guide to Studying Magnetic Alignment of Free‐Living Animals: Lessons From Leopards

open access: yesEthology, Volume 132, Issue 9, Page 642-650, September 2026.
We show that spatial autocorrelation in circular data can be detected and provide guidelines how to avoid such issues in magnetic alignment field studies. ABSTRACT Spontaneous magnetic alignment describes the tendency of animals to preferentially orient their major body axis in a non‐random alignment relative to the magnetic field.

Sheep and cattle grazing regimes differentially affect ground beetle and ant communities in Mediterranean cork oak woodlands

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, Volume 19, Issue 5, Page 1046-1060, September 2026.
Sheep and cattle grazing significantly shape ant and ground beetle species composition in Mediterranean cork oak woodlands, promoting higher diversity by increasing habitat heterogeneity. Ground beetles and ants reflect changes in grazing regimes, with sheep‐grazed areas showing the highest diversity, highlighting their utility in ecosystem monitoring.

A DYNAMIC EXERCISE IN REDUCING DEER-VEHICLE COLLISIONS: MANAGEMENT THROUGH VEHICLE MITIGATION TECHNIQUES AND HUNTING [PDF]

open access: yes
The costs of deer-vehicle collisions (DVCs) nationwide are estimated to be in excess of $1 billion annually. In this study, factors contributing to the abundance of DVCs are identified and the potential effectiveness of various deer management strategies

Using Drones for Large Mammal Monitoring

open access: yesMammal Review, Volume 56, Issue 3, September 2026.
Drones were used to obtain video data on animals and locations and distance from the midline was automatically determined by our pipeline so that the input for Distance sampling is generated. ABSTRACT Introduction The emergence of drones has profoundly transformed the field of large mammal monitoring, offering unprecedented capabilities for data ...
