Where the wild rose blooms: A phenology of grounded writing

open access: yesAnthropology and Humanism, Volume 51, Issue 2, December 2026.
Abstract This flash tip reflects on a phenology of grounded writing, emerging through reciprocal attention and embodied observation across four seasons. Drawing on land‐based methodologies and creative ethnography, I offer reflections for scholars seeking to write otherwise through the practice of standing in solidarity with two feet in one place.

How wildlife respond to tropical cyclones: short‐term tactics and long‐term impacts

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 101, Issue 5, Page 2081-2102, October 2026.
ABSTRACT From butterflies to lizards and from sharks to seabirds, wildlife exhibit tactics to survive the impacts of tropical cyclones, also known as hurricanes, cyclones, or typhoons depending on where they occur. Humans are not unique: difficult birth is common in placental mammals

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 101, Issue 5, Page 2214-2239, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Human childbirth is widely presumed to be uniquely difficult and dangerous compared to birth in other mammals. Characterisation of Typical Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (tEPEC) and bfpA Genes From Five Bat Species Reveals Australian Pteropus Spp. Are Natural tEPEC Hosts

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, October 2026.
This study revealed that Australia's five Pteropus bat species are all natural hosts of typical Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (tEPEC)—historically considered a human‐specific pathogen. Across the five Pteropus spp., tEPEC prevalence ranged between 14.2% and 37.0%, with 18 bat‐specific tEPEC strain types and 24 bat‐specific bfpA allele types ...

Monitoring wildlife health for diseases with visible signs by integrating camera traps with marked individuals

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 5, October 2026.
Abstract Monitoring wildlife health is essential for conservation and management, wildlife and livestock welfare, and public health in a One Health framework. Yet, wildlife health monitoring often requires long‐term fieldwork and intensive sampling, which can be costly or logistically challenging, especially for remote, rare, or elusive populations. To
