Root Meristem Maintenance Mechanisms are Key to Plant Defense Against Nanoplastics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Small nanoplastics can disrupt cell integrity and inhibit cell division in meristem zone of plant root. The plants can counteract the cell damage by upregulating genes associated with root meristem maintenance and increasing auxin accumulation by PIN2 transport inhibition.

Assessment of Diarrhea and Its Associated Factors in Under-Five Children among Open Defecation and Open Defecation-Free Rural Settings of Dangla District, Northwest Ethiopia

open access: yesJournal of Environmental and Public Health, 2018
Background Open defecation (OD) is a widespread problem in the developing world. This practice facilitates the transmission of diarrheal diseases. In Ethiopia, still the national open defecation rate in 2014 was 34.1% (37.9% in rural and 8.7% in urban ...

Bimetallic Nanozyme Amplifier for Synergistic Ferroptosis‐Cuproptosis and Metabolic Reprogramming to Reshape Immunosuppressive Tumor Microenvironment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The Bimetallic Nanozyme Amplifier (PEG@AuCZ@CC) to maximize hydrogen peroxide production and reprogram tumor metabolism from glycolysis to oxidative phosphorylation. This shift enhances ferroptotic/cuproptotic signaling cascades and creates a glucose‐enriched but lactate‐depleted tumor microenvironment (TME), effectively overcoming immune tolerance in ...

The Parasite Load of Trypanosoma cruzi Modulates Feeding and Defecation Patterns of the Chagas Disease Vector Triatoma infestans

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2022
Trypanosoma cruzi is the causal agent of Chagas disease, a parasitic zoonosis transmitted mainly through the feces of triatomine insects. Triatoma infestans is the main triatomine vector of this disease in South America.

Supramolecular‐Engineered Bamboo Lignin Polymer with Enhanced Mechanical and Electrical Properties for Flexible Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A lignin‐derived ionogel is developed through a straightforward, one‐step solvent‐free process. By leveraging arginine‐grafted lignin‐terminated polythioctic acid and incorporating imine and hydroxyl groups into the supramolecular framework. Its dynamic disulfide/hydrogen‐bond dual networks enable balanced stretchability‐reversibility while delivering ...

Sex of Walker Influences Scent-marking Behavior of Shelter Dogs

open access: yesAnimals, 2020
Interactions with humans influence the behavior and physiology of other animals, and the response can vary with sex and familiarity. Dogs in animal shelters face challenging conditions and although contact with humans typically reduces stress and ...

Under‐Urine‐Adhered Supramolecular Hydrogel with Linearly Sustained Quercetin Release Facilitates Hemorrhagic Cystitis Healing via Inflammation Regulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A supramolecular gelatin‐based hydrogel adhesive was engineered for hemorrhagic cystitis management. It provides robust wet‐tissue adhesion, rapid hemostasis, sustained quercetin release, effectively restoring the bladder barrier via anti‐inflammatory and antioxidant actions.

Feasibility study of defecation studied with a wireless Fecobionics probe in normal subjects

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, 2022
Several technologies have been developed for assessing anorectal function including the act of defecation. We used a new prototype of the Fecobionics technology, a multi‐sensor simulated feces, to visualize defecatory patterns and introduced new metrics ...

Floral Traits Predict Frequency of Defecation on Flowers by Foraging Bumble Bees

open access: yesJournal of Insect Science, 2019
Flowers may become inoculated with pathogens that can infect bees and other critical pollinators, but the mechanisms of inoculation remain unclear.
