Association of IRX6 rs6499755 and HAAO rs3816183 Polymorphisms With Hypospadias Susceptibility in Northern Chinese Han Population

open access: yesGenetics Research
Conclusions: IRX6 rs6499755 and HAAO rs3816183 polymorphisms were associated with hypospadias in Chinese Northern Han, and there is a potential interaction between IRX6 rs6499755 and HAAO rs3816183 affecting the risk of hypospadias.

Down‐regulation of Shh in the hair follicles of mice during chemotherapy‐induced hair loss is mediated by the JAK/STAT1 signaling pathway

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We found that during chemotherapy‐induced alopecia (CIA), Sonic hedgehog (Shh) expression significantly decreased in hair follicle Shh+ cells, whereas the Janus‐activated kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription 1 (JAK/STAT1) signaling pathway was markedly activated.

Curvature-driven stability of defects in nematic textures over spherical disks

open access: yes, 2017
Stabilizing defects in liquid-crystal systems is crucial for many physical processes and applications ranging from functionalizing liquid-crystal textures to recently reported command of chaotic behaviors of active matters.

dUTPase is essential in zebrafish development and possesses several single‐nucleotide variants with pronounced structural and functional consequences

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...

Huaier inhibits autophagy and promotes apoptosis in T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia by down-regulating SIRT1

open access: yesHeliyon
Objective: Due to the high drug resistance and relapse rate of T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL), the prognosis is usually poor. Therefore, there is an urgent need to find safer and more effective therapeutic drugs. Huaier and its preparations,

Regulation of cell protrusions by small GTPases during fusion of the neural folds

open access: yeseLife, 2016
Epithelial fusion is a crucial process in embryonic development, and its failure underlies several clinically important birth defects. For example, failure of neural fold fusion during neurulation leads to open neural tube defects including spina bifida.

Investigation of thermal and magnetic properties of defects in a spin-gap compound NaV2O5

open access: yes, 2000
The specific heat, magnetic susceptibility and ESR signals of a Na-deficient vanadate Na_xV_2O_5 (x=1.00 - 0.90) were studied in the temperature range 0.07 - 10 K, well below the transition point to a spin-gap state.

Enzymatic degradation of biopolymers in amorphous and molten states: mechanisms and applications

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This review explains how polymer morphology and thermal state shape enzymatic degradation pathways, comparing amorphous and molten biopolymer structures. By integrating structure–reactivity principles with insights from thermodynamics and enzyme engineering, it highlights mechanisms that enable efficient polymer breakdown.
