Role of Defibrillation Threshold Testing in the Contemporary Defibrillator Patient Population

Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, 2013
Role of Defibrillation Threshold Testing.  Introduction: Defibrillation threshold (DFT) testing has been performed to prove functionality of the implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD). Over the past years it has become increasingly controversial because of possible morbidity and mortality.

Effect of defibrillation threshold testing on effectiveness of the subcutaneous implantable cardioverter defibrillator

Pacing and clinical electrophysiology : PACE, 2018
Defibrillation threshold (DFT) testing is recommended with the subcutaneous implantable cardioverter defibrillator (SICD).

Decline in Defibrillation Thresholds

Pacing and Clinical Electrophysiology, 1993
Much research has been done to lower defibrillation thresholds (DFT) through improved waveforms and electrodes. We hypothesized that DFTs are declining steadily, as did pacing thresholds. We performed a meta‐analysis of 105 reports of DFTs from 58 articles and abstracts published from 1973 to 1991.

Defibrillation Thresholds in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy

Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, 2010
Defibrillation threshold (DFT) testing is performed in part to ensure an adequate safety margin for the termination of spontaneous ventricular arrhythmias. Left ventricular mass is a predictor of high DFTs, so patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) are often considered to be at risk for increased defibrillation energy requirements.

The impact of carvedilol on the defibrillation threshold

Heart & Lung, 2008
Defibrillation threshold (DFT) is the minimum energy required to successfully terminate ventricular fibrillation. Epinephrine has been shown to increase the DFT in the beta-blocker naïve, but using cardioselective beta-blockers leads to a reduction in the DFT on infusion of epinephrine and norepinephrine. We sought to determine the impact of carvedilol

Management of high defibrillation threshold

Expert Review of Cardiovascular Therapy, 2008
The implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) has become the primary therapy for the treatment of potentially lethal ventricular arrhythmias. Ventricular arrhythmias encompass a spectrum of rhythm disturbances ranging from the occasional monomorphic ventricular premature complex to the almost universally fatal ventricular fibrillation.
