Definitely Life but not Definitively
Origins of Life and Evolution of Biospheres, 2006Although there have been attempts at a definition of life from many disciplines, none is accepted by all as definitive. Some people believe that it is impossible to define 'life' adequately at the moment. We agree with this point of view on linguistic grounds, examining the different types of definition, the contexts in which they are used and their ...

On Different Definitions of Positive Definiteness
Mathematische Nachrichten, 1991Let the function \(T^*\) be defined by \(T^*(a)=T(a^{-1})^*\) for a function \(T\) of a group \(G\) into a Hilbert space. The authors show that the commutativity of \(G\) is equivalent to each of the conditions below: (1) \(T^*\) is positive definite for every representation \(T\) of \(G\) in Hilbert space.
